    There is the liberals way of looking at things. When Democrats did it under Bush that was just fine but when Republicans do it it is obstructionist. The looney tunes Maher that wrote the piece does not understand what the tea parties were all about. He even used the liberal tea bag obscene usage rather that the historic tea party. I guess he lives in a vacuum. Taxes, out of control spending etc. Where is his rant that he uused to do about those horrible Bush deficits. Obama makes Bush look like a miser. But all of the liberals just jump up and down with joy over it. 1984 ring a bell with anyone? The top man speaks and everybody turns on a dime and talks the opposite way. Deficits bad under Bush but under Obama huge deficits are good. Looney tunes!!!!

    Well I'd think referring to CJs on every thread a many liberals do would denote some sort of mental illness.
    
    One more thing, when you consider an election that was won by 6-8% means that it equals 72% of the population is on the same page and will NEVER vote for another Republican president for the duration this country lasts, is either has a mental problem or went to the Jethro Bodine Skool of Cyphering and doesn't know the history of the People tossing out parties after two terms for the most case, unless you count the time two Republicans were voted in back to back in the 80s.

The reason that America thinks the neocons are divorced from reality is that you have the audacity (no pun intended) to compare these tea parties to what happened last November. That's delusional. Obama won because a lot of REPUBLICANS abandoned the GOP. And they abandoned the GOP because the party has been taken over by people who think a few thousand bitter and irrational far right wingers across the country whining about what you think Obama is *going to do* to you (just as your taxes are being cut, no less) have ruined the party.     in 2k when W "WON" by LOSING the popular vote & only able to win the electoral vote because the alleged States'-Rights republic candidate went to the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S supreme court to overturn the state law that required a recount, no one thought that the Democratic party was dead.
    
    It's just that the Dems didn't use the tactics of the current Republics that have been filibustering everything since the Dems won a ONE SEAT majority in '06.

  I certainly hope that conservatism isn't dead. But the republickin' party separated from conservatism 30 years ago.
  I feel that conservative thinking is a good thing, and I certainly agree with much of it. But there has been nothing conservative about the last 8 years.

    Islamabad - Taliban militants clashed with Pakistani security forces Thursday as they moved into the north-western district of Buneer, said an official, as Western leaders worried over the mounting threat to the Pakistani government. The movement of eight platoons of Frontier Constabulary seems to have failed in blocking Taliban who reportedly have invaded another neighbouring district of Shangla.
    
    The insurgents fired at the two platoons of paramilitary troops from their positions in the mountains in the Chinglai area of Buneer district as they headed to guard the government buildings in the area.
    
    "One policeman in a police squad escorting the paramilitary troops died and another was injured," said local police official Rasool Khan. "The troops retreated following the attack while the insurgents are still holding their positions on the hilltops."
    
    As the clashes were taking place in Buner, more than 30 Taliban fighters entered another district of Shangla, that borders both Swat and Buner, Geo television reported citing eye-witnesses. However, the local officials in Shangla denied the report.
    
    The Taliban expansion is perceived as a direct threat to Islamabad, located only 100 km southwest of Buner.
    
    “I think that the Pakistani government is basically abdicating to the Taliban and to the extremists,” US Foreign Secretary Hillary Clinton told the House Committee on Foreign Affairs Wednesday.
    
    “We cannot underscore the seriousness of the existential threat posed to the state of Pakistan by the continuing advances, now within hours, of Islamabad,” she said.

Funny - in 1964, Lyndon Johnson buried Barry Goldwater in a far worse defeat for the Republicans than they suffered in 2008. Those in the "know" opined that the Republican party was finished for a generation. What happened in 1968?

Jimmy Carter won in 1976, and had stronger Democratic majorities in both the House and Senate than Obama has now. What happened in 1980?

The Democrats are fooling themselves if they think that the 2008 election was the end of history. History does repeat itself.

I think it will be difficult for Republicans in the next 10 years.

They would have to all support convicting officials from the Bush administration for crimes before people would even listen to them.

We're not forgetting that stuff.

Personally, I'm thinking of any Republican that I can vote out next election. We already got rid of Santorum. That was great!

    I think the Republicans are in a state of confusion. They became so accustomed to propagating a package of beliefs that depended in upon a narrative based upon lies, they themselves don't know how to change the message without torpedoing its credibility. They've back themselves into an ideological corner. A strict orthodoxy that is resistant to change or modification. Any portion sacrifice threatens the whole. This is the inherent risk with all extremist philosophies. Their very intransigence in the face of changing facts and circumstances dooms them.
