After all these years, I am totally amazed that any messages from the past are coming to light from Auschwitz. The people who suffered and died at the hands of the Nazis faced perhaps the most cruel and inhumane treatment ever put on this earth.

The message, written in pencil and dated 9 September 1944, bears names, camp numbers and home towns of seven young inmates from Poland and France.
At least two survived the Nazi camp, an Auschwitz museum official said.
