Can We Convert All Gasoline Stations to Battery Shops When Electric Cars Dominate the Market? »
Posted By azies 7 months, 3 weeks ago in Science & TechnologyElectric cars are better for the environment and they are more energy-efficient than the gasoline-fueled vehicles. These cars produce lesser noise than gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles and their overall emissions in the environment are highly acceptable. However, the complexities involved in manufacturing them hinder automakers to make a mass production of these vehicles.

There are several problems with electric cars. The first has been mentioned in this article, where to recharge. The second is also mentioned, that a lot of charge, will be received from fossil fuel based power plants. The third,is their comparatively small range, usually 50 to 7o miles, though in the best, but most expensive cars 100 miles. In the future I believe the electric car will be the green car of choice. This will only be true when power plants use renewable sources, people's habits, concerning driving, become less selfish and electric cars manage a range of 200+ km,(140 miles)+.Until then cars fueled by LPG are the best option. They have the same range, the price isn't very different and performance is good. Here in the UK,the trouble with LPG fueled cars,is the scarcity of garages that sell LPG,outside the main metropolitan areas. It is improving slowly, but I feel it is the best environmental choice,at least for the next decade or maybe two. After this the electric car will become the best choice.

I see the problems. There is a new concept car now which overcomes the range and speed problems. Electricity will more and more come from alternative fuels such as wind, solar, geothermal and nuclear, etc. For the planet and our gas strations will convert. When cars came out, there were no gas stations, but over time they came into being to fit the demand. The same thing will be true for electric cars

That's got be one of the funniest things I've read in months.
Electric cars will NEVER make it in the market place. The reason why is because they will no time soon have batteries that are efficient enough. With all the research they have done to improve batteries over many many decades, electric cars can hardly get 50 miles distance without needing a recharge. Then a recharge takes many many hours time. Jay Leno has an old early 1900s electric car in his massive old car collection, it gets about 35 miles per charge. So, in the last 100 years or so batteries for electric cars have gained about 15 to 20 miles before they need charged. You people are dreaming if you believe electric cars are the answer, they simply are not and probably never will be. We are light years away from producing electric cars that will take us the distances that most of us require. Then consider the fact that these batteries are full of very nasty acids and toxins, also, they have to be replaced every 5 years or so, and are VERY expensive to buy. Electric cars are a JOKE!-

That MOST of us require? I don't usually drive more than 35 miles per day. Sounds like Leno's car would work for me.

Have you seen the improvements in battery technology in the last several years? It's mostly in laptops and cell-phones, but the batteries are far smaller, far lighter, and last far longer than they ever have before. I think the micro-processor is probably reaching the point of diminished returns, and it's quite possible that the next main focus will be batteries, at which point who knows how far the technology will improve? -

I still don't feel that electric cars are the answer. Their range is unacceptable and the price is a drawback. There is however, a need for them until sonmething better is developed. What that is I don't know. But our scientists and engineers will hopefully find an alternate power source. I mean the combustion engine has been unchanged for over a hubndred years.
