Gaza's separation from the West Bank is Israel's great triumph »
Posted By dissent 6 months, 2 weeks ago in NewsThe total separation of the Gaza Strip from the West Bank is one of the greatest achievements of Israeli politics, whose overarching objective is to prevent a solution based on international decisions and understandings and instead dictate an arrangement based on Israel's military superiority.
In view of the violent rivalry between the two main movements competing for the upper hand in the Palestinian mock-government, Fatah and Hamas, it's easy to forget the effort Israel invested in separating families, economies, cultures and societies between the two parts of the Palestinian state "in the making." All that remained was for the Palestinians to crown the split with their dual regime.

now the blockade effectively shuts gaza off from the rest of the world while illegal settlements continue to erode and fragment the west bank.

Have you seen the map of Gaza lately, Dissent? You would be amazed to discover that Gaza has a border with Egypt which iscontrolled by the Egyptians and makes your claim above an impossibility:

don't you worry about that tinker. the egyptian government is in our pocket, even if the people are not, so we've already got that covered. for egypt to keep the screws on gaza is much easier than trying to swat f16s gifted to israel by us. they're quite happy to have israel's little bullsh*t wars march across someone else's borders, not theirs

but since israel already controls gaza's coastline, airspace and land routes it wouldn't take too much trouble and only a few hundred maybe a thousand more dead palestinians to sever gaza's border with egypt, create a new corridor from such a land grab and then plant a few more illegal settlements with some prickly zealots with a real bad attitude for good measure in between, right? -

I find it amazing that you talk about illegal settlements. Do you know that the entire country of Jordan is illegal under the exact same standards that you claim the settlements are illegal. Britain did not have the authority to create Jordan when it did in 1922. Britain was a keeper of the League of Nations Mandate and as such was not acting in the interests of the League of Nations when it created Jordan. Nor did it have the authority to act in place of the League of Nations. The League of Nations had determined that Palestine would become a Jewish State, Lebanon a Christian state and Iran and Syria would become Muslim. Since Jordan resides on 2/3 of Palestine, Britain went behind the League of Nations' back when Churchill met in Cairo in 1921 with members of Arab delegations and secretly created Jordan. So, when Jordan is dismantled, there will be ample reason to dismantle the settlements as well. Until then, like it or not, the settlements are the Jordan of the West Bank.

The article underestimates the effort the Israelis (with our connivance) put into creating the Hamas/Fatah split. Remember that the Israelis helped Hamas get started in the early days as a rival to weaken Fatah. The remember that when the leaders of Fatah lost credibility with Palestinians because their attempts to negotiate with Israel proved counterproductive and destructive for establishing a viable Palestinian state, Israel provided great support (again with our connivance) to get a corrupt and discredited Fatah to attack other Palestinians who had greater credibility in the search for a Palestinian state.

Please cite official US government records which show that the US was in "connivance" with Israel. Not an article from some left or right wing web junk journal which you usually use to spin the facts. For once, back up your ridiculous statements with official US government records. If none are public, then it should be as obvious to you as it is to us that your statement is just more of the same BS. Obviously unless public records exist, nobody is able to factually make statements as you seem to pretend to do. From now on, I intend to challenge every statement that you make as it seems that everything that you say is either taken out of context purposely, or just plain stupidity. BTW, I have yet to have you take me up on my offer to debate without your ability to Google your answers. Thank goodness for the internet where Hyperbola's "truth" is everybody and anybody's junk journalism.

Just for everybody's edification, the article is one woman's opinion, baseless on facts since she herself admits that the "archives" are closed and "one day, when they are opened......."

One day, when they are opened, if they are ever opened, they may reveal something entirely different. I'm not quite sure what these archives are, however. -
