Smithfield operates massive hog-raising operations Perote, Mexico, in the state of Vera Cruz, where the outbreak originated.

FTA - " ... The possible link to Smithfield has not been reported in the U.S. press. Searches of Google News and the websites of the New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal all came up empty. The link is being made in the Mexican media, however. "

ON the other side of the scare:
This possible pandemic is raising the hair on the backs of xenophobes as well as filling the herbalist's coffers. Mexicans who sneeze on this side of the border may be murdered on the spot. The disease is devastating hypochondriacs throughout the world and health nuts are stocking up on their herbal remedies. There is no reason to panic, because Dick Cheney insists that we will all die anyway from an al Queda nuclear attack. So what else is new? -
