'Santas' and 'Elves' Distribute Anti-Jewish Comic To Children »
Posted By Spadecaller 7 months, 1 week ago in ReligionAimed at children, nationally distributed Christian comic book called a "Training Manual" For "The Next Pogrom Against Jews” is an internationally circulated anti-Semitic comic book entitled “Manga Messiah.” The 300-page colorful comic book depicts Jesus' life from birth to resurrection. The publication of Manga Messiah suggests the historically covert anti-Semitism within American Christian Zionist culture is mutating, changing and entering a new phase: the anti-Semitism is becoming overt.
More than just distasteful and ghastly the horrific content clearly presents an enemy scapegoat for voicing apocalyptic religious bigotry.

I have been observing the same phenomenon on various Internet sites, including comments that reflect the same on Propeller.-

The vast majority of American zionists are not Jews, but rather these Xian Evangelicals - and they quite firmly believe that while an expansionist and theocratic Israel is essential to bringing on the last days, the Jews themselves will be cast into the Lake of Fire and rendered into crispy critters by their "Lord of Love."
Reply
Ecch.
The really disturbing part of this is that the state of Israel has buddied up to these nutjobs, knowing that right-wing evangelical (good gawd it hurts to even call it "christianity") exerts a lot of political pressure in the U.S.
Apparently they have not taken to heart Ben Franklin's observation that those who lie down with dogs get up with fleas.
Or maybe they embrace Chaim Weitzman's outlook and just don't give a sh!t about Jews outside of Israel. -

"historically covert anti-Semitism within American Christian Zionist culture is mutating"
Reply
There's nothing covert about the anti-Semitism within Evangelical Christianity. They've been praying for the Rapture (and armageddon -- which takes place in Israel supposedly) to happen for decades. So-called 'Messianic Jews' (jews for Jesus) are of the same ilk, suggesting that Judaism is somehow incomplete without Christ. -

A year ago in March of 2008, it was announced by Rick Warren's publicist A. Larry Ross, that Uganda became the second official "Purpose Driven" nation on Earth, following Rwanda. Nothing that I would celebrate considering his views on gays and Jews.
Reply
Sometime last year Uganda also achieved the dubious distinction of a nation that distributes state-sanctioned anti-Jewish propaganda to schoolchildren. A million copies of Manga Messiah, which features one major misrepresentation of Biblical scripture by giving readers the impression that the Jewish Pharisees were in league with Beelzebub, were distributed in Uganda -- blessings of the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Uganda's First Lady Janet Museveni, who has participated in Rick and Kay Warren's HIV/AIDS conferences.-

Reply
People aren't often intelligent enough to seperate the political moves of the Pharisees (beholden to the Romans) from their religious actions. Jews didn't kill Jesus. Entrenched Roman-chosen leaders who also happened to be Jewish did.
It's always horrific to see any scripture twisted to suit someone's hateful ideology.

This is what we do, we group ourselves. Then our group is the best group. Then we compete with other groups. Then we get defeated by other groups. Then we don't handle defeat. Then we want revenge. Then we try to defeat those other groups, by an means. -

More than just distasteful and ghastly the horrific content in this comic book that is being distributed to children throughout the world clearly presents an enemy scapegoat for voicing apocalyptic religious bigotry - a very dangerous thing to do in this world today.

It's hard to judge whether this book is anti-Semitic without actually seeing it. The few little pictures given do seem to indicate that it is, but the person depicted may be the representation of a single person rather than a whole religion.
Reply
Whether or not it's anti-Semitic, however, I find it objectionable when people distribute religious material to children. I'm not sure of the circumstances of these distributions but I believe that children's religious education should be up to the parents and the children should get nothing from anyone without the parents' permission.

Very disturbing in that they take certain phrases and use them without the background text to illuminate what is being taught.
Romans 11:19-36
19 You will say then, "Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in." 20 Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. 22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. 23 And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?
25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:
"The Deliverer will come out of Zion,
And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;
27 For this is My covenant with them,
When I take away their sins."
28 Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers. 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. 30 For as you were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience, 31 even so these also have now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy. 32 For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.
33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
34 "For who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has become His counselor?"
35 "Or who has first given to Him
And it shall be repaid to him?"
36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.
Seems to me Paul is saying to be loving toward our Jewish brothers and sisters. For the salvation was for them first and the gentiles after that. The Jews are still Gods chosen !!!
Or have they not read of the 144,000 sealed by God. 12,000 from each tribe.
Just seems to me that those doing this are reversing what was done in the days of Jesus. Blaming the Jews for all of our problems, instead of looking into our own hearts. -

redneck - if you bothered to do a little research you can find lots of info on this subject - try checking out manga - a Japanese style of cartoon illustrations, which this is. It was originally published in Japan by Japanese evangicals - try searching the internet after you are finished reading the "Elders of Zion"

Manga Messiah

As for the story itself, it's actually a very faithful adaptation of the four Gospels, with the corresponding passages of the Bible given at the bottom of each page. It also tries to give as much information as possible, with maps interspersed throughout the art at relevant points and informational captions given when certain cultural mores might confuse readers. The dialogue attempts to sound like modern English, which occasionally leads to odd phrasings of famous verses:
That being the case then the Gospels in the NT are anti-semitic?? Guess it depends on your point of view or bias!!-

I found little hard information in this review and nothing that would convince me of anything - one way or the other.
Looking at the pictures from the original article which is the background to this story presents a very different and dangerously mutant "reality". -

Good point Candida. Why is anit-semitism so prevalant in the world? In Europe, in all Arab countries, in Africa?
Reply
What is it that brings such focused hatred?
Why do Jews consider themselves gods chosen people, distaining contact with non jews, the unclean unchosen. Why do jews not eat pork, what the f is that? What the f is Kosher food? Is this the freaking dark ages? What a bunch of superstitious idiots, with their beanies on their heads, look I'm a jew, gods chosen strand of DNA.
I got news, there is no God, no chosen strand of DNA. Its all just insanity, and when any tribe of people band together inbreeding and rejecting all others, be they Arabs, Gypsies, Chinese, Irish, Jews, Germans or pick your tribe, obsessed with racial purity, like in Israel or Hitlers Germany, and then start economically raping and dominating markets, proclaiming themselves the master race, with their own brand of religious bullcrap justifying it all, the same old crap happens.
Racism begets racism. -

"Why do Jews consider themselves gods chosen people,"
This purely a remark from one is uninformed, to put it politely. There are Christians who consider the Jews the "Chosen" people.
"The Jews" do not consider any one interpretation of that phrase; as there are several sects of Judaism and a wider range of interpretations.
The sect that I was raised in considered the statement to mean something totally different.
The Jews were the "choosing" people. Which simply meant that as a result of extreme hardship and despair, they reached out to one supreme God hoping to find strength and salvation from their trials.
The historical origins of this view are based on the fact that tenses, are often obscured in translation of ancient writings. Was it "chosen" or was it "choice"? Ultimately, it is a private understanding. And for those who "choose" to condemn all the Jews for believing they are, in fact, the chosen people, is wrong. It not only stereotypes all Jews, but it is used as an excuse to find contempt for a people. No one is pushing that believe on anyone else.
The idea that we cannot be tolerant of people with various belief in this nation and world has become of great concern to me.-

Just for your information Jehovah said several times statements similar to the following:
Reply
"You will be MY PEOPLE and I will be your God."
"Israel is MY PORTION or INHERITANCE"
"I am married to Israel"
These types of statements seem to have one interpretation: Israel is God's CHOSEN PEOPLE." "You Israel are a chosen possession unto Me."
Psalm 135:4 "chosen .. Israel for His special treasure."
Isaiah 44"1 "Israel whom I have chosen."
I could go on and on........

Though I do not subscribe to organized religion, my spiritual beliefs are private and I enjoy the respect of friends who are Christians, Muslims, agnostics and atheists.

The best quality we share is the tolerant attitude of "live and let live".
I understand that many people are convinced that their beliefs are superior and of the right kind - that it is their "mission" to educate or convert everyone else. I find that attitude both arrogant and unkind.
I am an artist and do most of my thinking outside the box, so to speak. I am not brainwashed by any religion or ideology; and I do not take well to people who ridicule others for their spiritual beliefs - thinking that they are performing a service of washing someone's brain clean. That applies to you, "antibrainwasher."-

And what does one do about those who actively promote the kind of "spirituality" which is the topic of this post - and what does one do about forms of "spirituality" which encourage hatred, ignorance, homophobia, racism, sexism, blind obedience to a corrupt authority, etc?
Really, show me a religious belief, including my own, and I will show you irrationality. That's OK, not all realms of human experience are or should be rational. So as far as that goes, "live and let live" is a fine dictum, and criticizing the spiritual strivings of others just because you can is as pointless and mean-spirited as criticizing how they dance or fsck.
But beyond the simply irrational, religion, particularly in its organized forms, can be and frequently is a breeding ground for the hateful, the inhuman, the oppressive, the damaging.
What is the right and ethical thing to do about that, Spade?
I believe it makes sense to reason with the reasonable, and to expose those who are immovably rooted in beliefs both ridiculous and poisonous to the mockery which their beliefs merit. -

Presents a perfect example of using the statement of one person to stereotype an entire group for the purpose of discrediting an unrelated story. SICK!
In this case it is categorizing all Jews. Not surprising that hardly anyone propped or even commented on the stupid story that he posted. The opening statement of this absurd article states:
"The outbreak of swine flu should be renamed "Mexican" influenza in deference to Muslim and Jewish sensitivities over pork, said an Israeli health official Monday." i doubt the story reflects anything close to the real non-story."
The thought process of a typical bigot or antiSemite is drawing a conclusion after finding one person who acted in a questionable manner.
earthlinger concludes from this one alleged comment that, "Maybe jewish people are a little too sensitive?"
Of course, earthlinger lacks the incentive to directly discuss this article or to even recognize that if there are some Jews that are sensitive, it might be a result of people like himself who are too ignorant to recognize the historical significance of antisemitism and how it devastated the lives of millions.
Yes, earthlinger, you provide an excellent example of why comic books like this should not be distributed to children.
