Won't build a wall, won't protect the citizens, won't stop the flow of illegals. Isn't this how Rome fell?

      I think you're correct BB.
We have to call, send faxes tho, 3 gets their attention over 10 they know it's a hot button issue, we need to shut down the switchboards. I had a 10 minute wait on most calls today.
      It does help.........

I don't think that was the main reason but it helped.

It was corruption, high taxes and a lazy population living on the social programs provided by the spoils of those who worked. Freedoms were restricted and you could face death if you insulted the emperor. Sounds a whole lot like today. But you guys don't have an emperor you have a messiah.

Um...Cheney is the one who arrested people for asking him questions about the war.

And Bush jailed people who asked why their children had to die.

At least Obama isn't asking for people to give their lives for him. Human sacrifices to Bush.

Hold on skippy, please show the arrest reports you claim to exist. That's like the noise Cindy Sheehan made concerning a visit with the President. Cindy and the entire left-wing press group forgot to mention that she had already met President Bush in the White House. All of the protests and sitting in front of his home was a huge PR move that really didn't help anyone. Other than the news for selling ad space and the terrorist's morale.

As to giving up your life for the messiah, we'll see how well you like your government run death care. I mean HMO. Just think the same level of quality care you get at the DMV will be your from the Obama health plan. The only way to reduce costs is restrict service. Get used to long lines and refusals. That's how it works in the UK and Canada. Wait until you find you been bypass surgery and they tell you to go home and wait a few months for your turn. We'll see how well you like government HMO's. Assuming you will live through it.

That's the one on Cheney. You know the one on Bush.

Every parent, regardless of their motivation, who lost a child in Iraq deserves to stand face to face with Bush and ask him why their child had to die. I don't think that's wrong. Apparently you are more willing to give up your children than the average parent.

the romans forced the 'illegals' to serve in their armies of empire.

we aren't an empire. i guess its our job to just absorb them.

Actually, they were called mercenaries and were well paid to serve the Empire.

there had always been paid soldiers, but , correct me if i'm mistaken, they could become citizens after serving in and retiring from the roman army.

the well paid mercenaries were, for instance, the german tribesfolk. they got great pay and the romans relieved themselves of adversaries on their northern border. for a while.

We're testing my memories, it's been a long time since I studied them. There were mercenaries who fought for set times with little benefit other than money. They anyone from out side of the Roman world. Germany, France, would be my first guesses. It really was anyone outside of the Empire. As for them becoming a citizen, I thought they had to be from one of the colonies and serve 25 years before they would be permitted the title citizen. Again, it's been a long time. In the end, most of the Roman legions were little more than hired help. That was one of the other reasons for the 2 capitals. Rome fell, Byzantium lasted much longer. Their army was made up of mainly their own people.

One more time. The only way to stop the immigration of illegal aliens is to prosecute fully the people who hire them. If the immigrants can't get a job, they will not stay. It is that simple. Unless the industries who rely on illegal immigrants to make their cost structures work change, there is no reason to keep prosecuting the illegals who work here. Employers will just hire different illegals to fill the shoes of the deported.

Walls are stupid wastes of money. Not all illegal immigrants come from Mexico. There is a large population from Europe who come on visas and stay.

Prosecute the real criminals here. Stop prosecuting pawns.

what about the good citizens that hire immigrants hanging out at the local Home Depots to do day labor at homes and construction jobs?

              you're right. HANG EM HIGH!

You may find that those people who are hiring those illegal immigrants outside Home Depot are the ones who are crying most for a fence. Because they know that a fence won't keep people out any better than a river does now. And they can still get their floors put in for 20 dollars a day.

Again, not ALL illegal immigrants are from Mexico. You would be surprised to see the actual numbers. But you are again just playing semantics instead of addressing the real problem. The real problem is that the industries that rely on illegal immigrant labor cannot be successful without it. Until those industries change and employers are prosecuted for falsifying information, it will continue no matter what you do to try and stop it.

So again, instead of crying for us to spend MORE money (especially since you are so against government spending) on fruitless activities in politics, use the already on the books laws to prosecute the real problem instead of scapegoating people.

And that is precisely why E-Verify needs funded - the Democrats removed the funding for that program from the stimulus bill

If the Democrats are now going to go after employers at least give them a tool to use to verify whether the person is in the country legally and or has a valid work permit

Once the system is in place go after the employers with steep fines for a first offense - $50,000 - $100,000 per illegal worker
                      Second offense - jail time

So again. You aren't upset that the stimulus package was passed, just that the programs you think are important weren't represented. So you DO like socialism after all.

Um...the system currently in place is fine it's just not being enforced. Social Security numbers can tell you right away who is here legally and who isn't. The problem is that employers falsify the documents saying that they saw a social security card that they didn't.

No E-Verify should actually be funded in regular appropriations EXCEPT the stimulus bill was creating jobs - why stop funding for E-Verify then?

The current law is NOT working

Employers are supposed to look at Social Security cards, green cards, drivers licenses and keep copies on file in case federal authorities come knocking.
The 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act was aimed at getting a grip on this country's illegal immigration and employment.

The law lists documents that employers must look over after hiring someone, but it doesn't require them to be detectives. As long as the paperwork appears to be legitimate, employers have done their duty and don't have to probe any further.

"It's a big problem," said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Immigration Studies. "It guts the intent of the law."

Jim Chaparro, interim special agent in charge of the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Denver, said investigators encounter many businesses that simply assume paperwork provided by workers is legitimate. But he also noted that employers could risk a discrimination complaint by inquiring about whether an applicant is in the country illegally.
