    Jesus' point was that we can't go three days without breaking with his teachings! Our salvation is a gift, pure and simple: there is no good christian who deserves it (except Jesus himself).

      I've known a WHOLE LOT of Fundamentalist Christians who "deserve it."

        EXACTLY!! For some reason, that is so hard for many people to accept! We are saved by GRACE and not by any works of our own, so that no man should boast. That IS the good news of the gospel of Christ, because we could NEVER be perfect enough to deserve the salvation He freely gives to those who will accept it! Unfortunately, being the opportunistic beasts that we often are, many so-called Christians take advantage of that good news to pervert it into excusing anything and everything they do that is wrong. They will thumb their noses at their hypocrisy and say they are forgiven, therefore, it doesn't matter. They are in for a very rude awakening!!
