An 8-year-old Saudi girl has divorced her middle-aged husband after her father forced her to marry him last year in exchange for about $13,000, her lawyer said Thursday.

    Two things: First, I can't believe this sort of child marriage trading actually goes on. Sure, we here about it all the time, but it never becomes less shocking. I can't understand a culture in which the men would ever desire to have a wife who is in every sense still a child.

    Secondly, I'm glad that this girl was actually able to get a divorce. I doubt many are so lucky, and maybe she'll have the chance at a better life since she is free of this sham. Children should never, never be used like a commodity.
