Most mystery shopping is legit. I have done it. I don't pay for oil changes because I shop it and report my experience. Do not though pay any money up front for lists or connections or whatever. All of the legit sites are free to sign up. Forget certifications. The best way to get more shops is to do a good job on the ones you get. Its not a real job but it can get you some good stuff like a night of bowling and some cash too.

My son is a store manager for a large retailer. They can usually spot a "shopper" a mile off as they ask "canned" questions that a seasoned sales person can spot right off. The problem that a "shopper" creates on occasion is that they tie up a commissioned sales person and never buy anything. And once a shopper is spotted, he calls the other store locations and warns them .. :-)
