    i'm all for fiscal prudence.

thing is with these kind of choices, someones wasteful expenditure is someone else's life or death program.

    case in point.

here in NH, the democrats (sorry. i'm trying to keep this apolitical. in this case, i can't) took control of the House and Senate. normally, the budget committee estimates income and that's used as a baseline for state budgeting. the democrats in 2006 noted that the final number wasn't enough to fund the programs that they wanted so they CHANGED THE ESTIMATE. what typically ran 2-3% increase per year went up 17%. AT THE SAME TIME, they 'reformed' the state retirement program, paid in by the towns and cities from our property taxes. that rate went up by 35%, charged directly TO our property taxes.

long story short, we are $2-5B in the hole.

now the crying starts. "oh! we can't cut $2-5B out of the budget. that will cause untold devastation." meanwhile, they are keeping rooms and meals tax revenue that is collected by and for the town and cities. they've offerd to send us 'stimulus'money, but last word is they want to keep that too.

i don't care who we put in in 2010, but the democrats must go. their social agenda is creepy, too...
