    The War between the States was not fought to free any slaves that's for sure. However, slavery was at the core of the dispute between the North and the South.

      The Civil War to put it simply was the then Antebellum South's desire to secede from the Union.

      (Lot's of men from both sides lost their lives on the battle of Gettysburg alone....lots of good men....R.I.P.)
