i worry that i'll have to explain what being gay means to my kids and grandkids before there's any need to.

being gay is a lifestyle choice. being such, knock yourself out.
its almost as if another option you get presented when you are old enough to make a choice.
to equate that with man-woman marriage somehow seems wrong.
if its all about making sure that property rights can flow through your partner and things like medical power of attorney, well, get it protected by law. more power to you.
calling it 'marriage' somehow seems wrong.
will NAMBLA ask for "marriage" next? i'm not a big fan of slippery slope arguments, but I can't see any reason why they couldn't demand it too.-

Because of a concept called 'age of consent'. The law has determined that children do not have the capacity to make a truly informed decision until certain ages. By and large, 12-year-olds simply cannot comprehend the full consequences of their choices and therefore cannot be considered consensual participants, particularly in regards to an adult power figure.
NAMBLA can demand all they want, but there is demonstrable harm caused by pedophilia, therefore the law is compelled to protect the children.
Same-sex marriage, on the other hand, causes no demonstrable harm whatsoever in and of itself.

I am still trying to figure out what is wrong with gay or even plural marriages. If one is for saving the sanctity of marriage then maybe you should start trying to outlaw divorce. Take Rudy for example. He refused to attend the marriage of the couple who took him in when he was in need just because the are gay. This man who has been divorced three times obviously has no idea what the sanctity of marriage is. At 43 years of age I still haven't been married. This is because my first marriage will also be my last. how is that for understanding the sanctity of marriage. BTW I am planning to ask my girl soon. WOOT.

Wolfie, this is the second time I have heard of this "movement" to legalize plural marriage in Canada. And never have I heard it from a Canadian. As a member and candidate for one of the leftest political parties we have, if this were anything more than a fringe movement, I think I would have heard about it.
