This is one of those stand-off situations that I find it hard to take sides about.
Obviously the Russians are playing a tough and opportunistic
game, however the Western powers hardly deserve a look in in this area and if Saakashvili has anything at all to commend him to public support or sympathy he seems to do an incredibly good job of keeping it hidden.
My prediction is perdition; that it will continue to be a festering sore for the forseeable future, that there will be no "winners" and that the unlucky losers - even if there ever IS anything that could be described as an outcome - will be the Georgian population as a whole, or at the very least a plurality of it.
Hopefully it will not become as brutal as the former Yugoslavia did or as valueless as round 2 in Kosovo.
Above all there's not any positive role that the West can play in this mess.
I recommend switching it off completely and watching Kusturica's "Black Cat White Cat" one more time..

It really depends, whether this is just discontent in the ranks of a poorly paid military,or something altogether more sinister. It could be a build up to a genuine coup,Russian sponsored or not.Or then again,a defacto show of discontent,by the Kremlin, using sympathetic elements in the Georgian military.
I think it is more likely to be discontent troops, being manipulated by Russia to send NATO a message.Things are unpredictable in this part of the World and events could start having their own dynamic, with unforeseen consequences.

And, above all, let's all hope that the government of Georgia will respond to this mutiny situation "with restraint," as recommended by then-candidate BHO last fall!!!!!!!

        (End of Sarcasm)

Not surprised by any of this. That region is scarily unstable.

The Georgian leader started a war and killed innocent Russians. The guy is dillusional. I hope he doesn't get killed but he should quietly go away. http://hubpages.com/hub/George-Bush-Legacy
