    Another idea that returns money from the government to citizens while ensuring it circulates into the economy and reduces gas consumption. (As opposed to reducing taxes, which guarantees neither of those benefits.)

    Who could object to this?

      If by "benefits," you mean strangling electric car companies by further propping up failed auto-makers and rewarding those who purchased gas guzzlers, then yeah, it's a guarantee alright.

          i don't know if qualifies as an 'objection' but it should be noted that, by doing this, its front loading demand for cars so that down the road, demand will ultimately be depressed.

          tadair's point is well taken too. if the industry can't make it without accounting and sales gimmicks, it puts the whole survival of the industry up for grabs.

          to his credit, Obama is doing SOMETHING. i'm not sure if its anything meaningful...

            It will be followed up by a surcharge on fuel to bring the price up to $4.00 + per gallon to FORCE the public to buy one.
