Supposedly, this all came about by atoms being jostled or convected about in or near ancient ocean thermal vents. Or, was it tide pools? :)

You forgot to add a few billion years onto that.
There is evidence of life in the oldest known Earth rocks of 3.8 Billion years old, however we have no evidence of multicelled life until less than 1 billion years ago. Maybe that's because it took 3 billion years for cells to evolve all those doohickies that you think required magic.
Think of the variety and diversity seen in every multi-celled critter over the last 1/2 billion years, from oak trees to squids to hummingbirds to junebugs. Single cells have been evolving for 4 billion years, or 8 times longer than there have been multi-celled critters. Is it really so surprising to find incredible diversity, variety and complexity within and on a scale of the microbe?
