I had to read it as one of 4 books for my Senior year AP class in high school. I spent the next two days laying in a fetal position in bed whimpering that the world was a dark and evil place and that love was a heart with a dagger inside of it. I'm kidding but you get the idea.

Then it biased my opinions of the Rebbe in My Name is Asher Lev and some elements of Typical American and Candide. But truly an awesome book, highly chilling. -

It surprises me that people would lie about reading this book.It is not difficult to read,Orwell being a journalist, uses a strait forward style, with simple language. It is of moderate size too.

Now something like "a brief history of time",I could understand. It has sold millions of copies and is a difficult, though interesting read. Then Orwell told stories, whilst Stephen Hawkins writes "theoretical physics",which isn't a subject known for it's great popularity.1984 of course is an excellent read and I agree, "anyone who hasn't read it",do yourself a favor and give it a go. -
