Why is it that when doctors don't know what causes a condition its considered a psychiatric condition..They did the same thing to Ms patients when they couldn't figure out what caused that either..And guess what..now its a disease..Why don't you doc's out there do something about your ego's and stop labeling people with chronic illnesses they can't figure out as psychiatric problems..I'm a healthy woman who raised three children..well adjustted..and happy..but yes I do have fibromyalgia..diagnosed by a doctor who's mother has the same condition..He knows better than to put us all in a box..and label us as psychiatric patients..Thank God all doctor's are not the same!!

I have fibromyalgia and I can say it is not in my head. There are parts of my back that I cannot even touch, let alone someone else touch, without extreme pain. I am on many medications to help ease the pain, but there are some days when it hurts to get out of bed. Fibromyalgia does exist and there are many sufferers. Those doctors who think it does not, pick up a recent medical book, I am sure you will find it there! I am glad that the doctor I have is more than willing to help me with my condition and even asks me how I am when I take my children to see him.

i too have fms - for over 25 years. the only thing i have found that helps is cannabis...i got tired of hearing "md's" claim my pain is from depression; when i reality my "depression" came from not being taken seriously and put on drugs that did nothing but lighten my wallet.

The history of fibromyalgia should be a hint to those in question about what it is. Doctors got many complaints from post menopausal women about the aches and pains and had no name for the symptoms so the named it fibromyalgia. Certainly, the effects of age and the chemical changes that women go through at this time must contribute to the ailments. Add to this poor diet, excessive alchohol and drug consumption, and the stresses of life and voila you get fibromyalgia. Many of the health profession make fun of people who have been diagnosed with it because they think it is a normal condition based on the contributing factors.

BS BS BS......I am in my thirties do not drink, smoke, and maintain a healthy diet, so what you had to contribute is BS. "Chemical Changes that **women** go through" has got NOTHING to do with it. These "changes" do not lend to debilitating pain, fatigue, and "fog". So until YOU have lain in bed in the morning and could not get up for an hour because the pain in your back was so excruciating that you felt like you were breaking into two - don't comment and pull back on the judgements on something that you know obviously NOTHING about..... go pick on another illness - like cancer....hey, maybe that is made up too due to "chemical changes that women go through..." PLEEEEEEEEEEZ.

I don't touch alcohol, smoked pot now and again, eat a good diet and was diagnosed with it years ago at age 40. I'd never heard of it, but just knowing it had a name and probably wouldn't kill me helped to deal with it. Anyway, what I'm saying is, it can't be said that those who have it drink excessively, eat a poor diet, and consume drugs.

i have fibromyalgia and it is very painful. i was dx by a very good rheum in 1992. thankfully it did not really act up until 5 yrs ago. i'd like those people that think it is in our head to have fibromyalgia for one week and then tell me it does not exist. Never judge someone until you walk in there shoes:) But I don't want to waste my little energy here on those people. For fellow FM people, I am provigil and it is amazing for energy, i don't know what I would do with out it. It is indicated for Narcolepsy. I take 200mg every morning. Not long ago I started a new combo of 3 drugs and my fibro went away for 4 wks, completey and totally away. I was like "is this how everyone else around me feels, this is awesome!!!". I am thankful i had no pain for 4 wks but then it came back.

The pain I've learned to live with, it is the Fibro Fog that is driving me nuts now and med's just make it worse. It does not seem like it but there are a lot worse things we could have!! Positive thinking, don't let the disease take over and all the best to each of you. -

I love when people ask you to tell them about it, and when you say something like "well, I have joint pain, I'm constantly fatigued, I have cognitive problems" they reply "oh, my joints hurt too, I'm tired sometimes, I'm so forgetful anymore." It's just negating and demeaning. These people have no idea the degree of pain, fatigue and mental fog we endure and I wouldn't wish this on anyone. What I do wish is that those people would just SHUT UP.

WHAT A JOKE!!! Until you have experienced and LIVED WITH the pain, you have no idea what this illness does. And as far as to whether or not this "really" exists....PLEEEEEZ. If a person could put themselves in excruciating pain just for the fun of it - do you think they really would??? I DON'T THINK SO!

Fibromyalgia, like most conditions can be traced to our nutrition and environments. Like many here, it is unfortunate when you have people who do not really understand health and wellness as our medical advisors. The American Medical Industry is big business. So doctors who are trained in these schools are trained to match symptoms to a label and match the label to a drug. That is not in the best interest of our health.

Since '99, I have dealt with Fibromyalgia symptoms. I am only 32, I was formally diagnosed 5 years ago, and everything started when my life was at the best point, so it surely was no depression induced condition.
From studying and researching with others, I have come to the conclusion that Fibromyalgia is a catchall when Doctors cant explain things. Yet, Fibromyalgia , like Chronic Fatigue, and Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome are labels to idenitify specific symptoms, which are very real.
Yet, the biggest problem is that there must be a shared learning experience. Doctors, unless they are cross trained in naturopathy and alternatives from the cookie cutter cutter schooling most have will not solve the condition, it will only try to mask the symptoms. The medicines they prescribe will create more problems in time.
Synthetic fibers, flourescent lights, chemicals galore, processed foods, lack of rest and relaxation, cause more problems than most of us are conscious about. As I have learned more about natural lifestyles, and change things, whereby they eliminate the triggers, I have found that most of my problems are a thing of my past. When I reintroduce the triggers, it is obvious that processed foods, flourescent lights, and the things I mentioned earlier are the problem.
Raw Milk & Whole foods, and organic foods are not even readily available anymore. Corn syrup and soybean oil is placed in most foods. Bleached food surely don't give nutritional value. It is truly society being more profit based, than life based that is causing the problems. We must become more vigilant. -
