The Day The Universe Froze: New Model For Dark Energy »
Posted By DiffeeOnline 6 months ago in Science & TechnologyImagine a time when the entire universe froze. According to a new model for dark energy, that is essentially what happened about 11.5 billion years ago, when the universe was a quarter of the size it is today.

Just like religion. Except there is no evidence for anything said in religion.

Problem is that there is evidence that this happened. Being presented as fact is a slap in the face to scientifuc theory because it is presented as fact. -

The computer and many other modern marvels like bio tech depend upon quantum theory which is highly theoretical and not a product of direct observation but mathematical models and behavior prediction. Nevertheless, its uses, values, and products are quite tangible.

Much of our knowledge of the universe is a combination of theory and observation. For example, if you bounce light off a piece of copper, you will get an exact frequency of light that is one of the properties of this element. By breaking down the light we get from distant objects, we can detect, at least partially, what their composition is when we see these refractory signatures. We also know the values and characteristics of gravity and these can be tested locally and by their consistency with observation of the planets and their orbits.
We use these values to determine the mass of the universe and measure this against its momentum and if there is a significant discrepancy between the projected result and the observation, we need to account for this. Either the theory of gravity only works in our neighborhood or some other force is at work that accounts for the difference. That is how the theory of dark matter arose. There is simply not enough observed matter in our galaxies to keep them from flying apart. So to characterize these theories as pure guesswork is misleading. These are educated guess based upon a combination of experiment, theory, observation, and calculation.

Once again an idea which may or may not be true is read by someone as scientific "fact". Are these folks so desperate to not understand science, that they must constantly ridicule what they do not have the background or intelligence to understand. These are the same folks who think the world is 5,000 years old, that smoking does not cause cancer, and that carbon dioxide does not trap heat. I certainly wish they would just go away and let other folks with some slight(at least) scientific background comment on scientific articles. Unfortunately the nature of the web allows "dodos" (yes they really are not extinct) to post their silly opinions over and over again. Get a life and go away.

Why does it seems that certian religious people are afraid of extremely large numbers. You mention anything past 5,000 years ago, let alone 11.5 billion years ago, and you have instant knickers in a twist. It scientist cant find a way for the origins of the universe to match Genesis perfectly, one just must assume with out a shaddow of a doubt that the scientist are wrong and the tribal nomadic sheep herders were right. None of this ever states that a God or gods do not exist, but maybe our ancestors were mistaken on how everything came to be.
