yes, and the lesson is that despite human hubris, love is an emotion not limited to homo sapiens.

I always loved elephants. They were my number one reason for visiting a zoo as a kid. Even when one sucked my arm up it's trunk, giving my arm what seemed to be a snot sock made of dirt when it used my 10 year old arm as a trunk cleaner, it didn't hurt my love for elephants. How I looked desperately for a place to wash off that dirty snot sock, though.

It is amazing us as humans could take a lot away from the animal kingdom. I saw a bumper sticker with 3 different colored lab puppies and it said, dogs

Love is a many splendor thing, knows no limits or boundaries, cross' the line over and between species.

Love makes the world go round......did you know that there are many animals that mate for life and will grieve themselves to death over the loss of their mates.....

Never underestimate the love of a Mother Animal, she will protect her young with her life...that is how deep a mothers love is....

Love is in the air...to bad it isn't inhaled by many more humans...

I could go on but I think you get my point ;>

Love and Caring crosses genders, species... even, perhaps, between fauna and flora.
