I always loved elephants. They were my number one reason for visiting a zoo as a kid. Even when one sucked my arm up it's trunk, giving my arm what seemed to be a snot sock made of dirt when it used my 10 year old arm as a trunk cleaner, it didn't hurt my love for elephants. How I looked desperately for a place to wash off that dirty snot sock, though.

About 20 yrs ago I went somewhere where the had a wolf that had been injured and was going through rehab, they were using her as education and display. She was in a cage and people could pet her through the cage, son there were all these people trying to touch her. When I came in and came up to the cage she came right over and started like crying and she wouldn't stop licking my face, of course I let her, but the owners said she's never ever done that with anyone before, it was like she was SO happy to see me :-) it was almost magical, but I didn't really want to wash her slobber off lol!

I'm sure most people have had one pet they can remember that it was like you had a very special bond with, or you've seen animals that really seemed to be friends!!

I have to disagree with your "dogs aren't racist". I attended a picnic with friends and a yellow lab was present. When my friends, who were black, showed up, the dog was terrified. It went from happy and friendly to wimpering, shaking, and peeing while standing up as they came to the picnic. It was horrible. It was like something out of the old "Omen" movie with Greggory Peck. And, they were a nice, friendly African American family, also. I was so embarrassed for them for the way the dog was acting. So, there can be love AND prejudice in animals, it seems. Oh, for the longest time, my family's BLACK lab/Border Collie has treated me like that yellow lab treated that nice African American family. Well, for the first couple of years. It wasn't shaking, wimpering and peeing around me, but, looking LEERY of me. I'm wondering if it detected something from me from the beginning, because, on the night I met it, I was going through a very deep, dark depression as the result of a "crisis of faith", and, MAYBE, the dog picked up on it, SEEING the darkness that was my life as a threat to it? The dog no longer cowars around me, and, my crisis of faith is over. Perhaps the dog is an empath? Who knows.

Love makes the world go round......did you know that there are many animals that mate for life and will grieve themselves to death over the loss of their mates.....
Never underestimate the love of a Mother Animal, she will protect her young with her life...that is how deep a mothers love is....
Love is in the air...to bad it isn't inhaled by many more humans...
I could go on but I think you get my point ;> -

When you feel loved and needed, you can go through a LOT of crap without having it destroy you. I hold the door open for both guys as well as girls, because, hey, you don't know what kind fo crap that person might have been going through that day, and, it MIGHT keep them from doing something really stupid if they know someone showed kindness to them that day because he or she CARED for them.
