A study of 13-year-olds by researchers in Sweden since the early 1960s have indicated that teenagers have become more logical over the years. The test is conducted every 5 years and has been the same one since the study began.

  logic does not denote experience - a person will always lack experience about something - that does not mean they are irrational - logic is a way of thinking about things not about knowledge gained from experience these are different. Good for teenagers maybe the future will be in good hands.

    I did not say that logic denotes experience, Des. At the same time, I do agree with you that any person will lack experience in something.
    
    That being said, the fact remains that everything that everyone does is rational, at least in its own way. That does not automatically bestow goodness, or even functionality, on that which is to one person, rational.
    
    I also agree with you that logic is a way of thinking about things. However, I would re-iterate that sometimes logic and rationality in the face of limited facts, limited data and limited experience can lead to results, conclusions and/or actions that are highly rational to the individual, but highly irrational to others. That is what I was trying to succinctly express with that li'l equation.

  I think so. However, as anecdotal as it is, most teachers I have associated with over the years swear up and down that kids are becoming more intelligent in general. Though many also state that they are also becoming less opinionated when compared to the youth of the past. Take that as a good or bad thing.

    Intelligent but not opinionated...a conundrum as to how that will turn out. We know a lot but if we have hard feelings on issues we don't voice them...A Strange New World.
    
    I am glad I grew up in the 60's and 70's. The world raged around us but we absorded the news in a half hour with the rest of the familty at 6:30 when Walter Cronkite came on. The only opinion we heard was Paul Harvey (usually non-political on the radio), Eric Sevareid, and Jesse Helms (Gads!) who was my sisters first grade teacher's father and whom we knew personally, he gave the nightly editorial on the local news. Every night right before Walter Cronkite.

I wish the same could be said for republicans. Never in my life have I met more illogical and irrational people then people who vote and support the republican party values and ideas. Even 5 years-olds are more logical than an adult that votes for a republican.

We are what we eat...even as what we see, smell,taste.feel, and invision...this process begins from the first split of the eag to two cells instead of one. It involves communication between the infant and mother...a coxwain of thoughts, feelings etc that end with the chid born as perfect. Ready to use muscles that the mother inspired with her movements and thoughts...the conclusion of what the mother ate, drank, saw, knew, etc. established directly to the child who at one point caused the mother to suddenly want a home, a crib for the child, or a new husband...lol.

I find that every generation of teenagers have their own since of logic. Wether or not it has anything to do with real logical that is a different story. Even psuedo logic we have found to be quite convincing to the mass since they were trying to survive on a logic of their own anyhow.
