In the baby boomers generation this was very easy to see. Parents were the greatest influence. There were only three TV channels is those days and only family shows were on. No sex, bad language and little violence was observed on the screen.

Not all TV.Total trash TV is. MTV,BET,lead the pack. They should be on pay for view.I didn't,and still don't allow it in my home,My grand daughter said I was mean.Today she four children, and does not let them watch it.By the way she is the only democrat in the family.I believe Obama will bring her around.

FTA: "In the baby boomers generation this was very easy to see. Parents were the greatest influence."

Whoever wrote this either doesn't remember the 60s and 70s, or is has reshaped history to his/her own liking. People who were around at that time remember how rock-and-roll was reviled, how long hair was a major social problem, and how the hippies rebelled against everything their parents stood for. It was a mostly peaceful revolution, the "make love not war" kind, but it was a revolution nonetheless.

FTA: "No sex, bad language and little violence was observed on the screen."

Does that mean that Western movies had little violence? How about series like "Gunsmoke"? Perhaps there were only three TV channels when the first wave of baby boomers was growing up, but once grown, it was the baby boomers who watched movies like "Hair" and "Clockwork Orange," with lots of bad language and lots of violence.

There were no predators in the 50s? Sure there were; only mass communication was less developed and we heard less about them. Parents shaped their children in their own image? Then where did all the hippies come from? Where did the drug culture come from?

Every generation is thought by their parents to be worse than before. I remember reading a speech that could have been given by a current person but was actually an ancient Greek complaining about the youth of the day.

Kind, supportive, understanding, fun and challenging are the criteria.

Measure up or loose your kids to a better venue.
