I can't imagine wasting this much time discussing it. It's as stupid as when Bush Sr. was in office, and we spent 4 years discussing flag burning.

There will always be gay people in the world, we might as well accept this. Once we realize this fact, there is no reason to stop them from having the same legal benefits that stem from marriage that the rest of us are privileged to. -

Of course, if we outlaw all marriage, what about children? Wouldn't that also get rid of the whole taboo of children being born out of wedlock? Couldn't we just put egg donor and sperm donor on birth certificates instead of mother and father? I doubt Republicans would like that idea much, but it would save even more...and besides it seems to be heteros having all those children that increase the cost of insurance for families.

He is going to hear from a lot of small business owners who bake cakes, do floral arrangements, cater receptions. A lot of them are not doing to well and would love it if a brand new market with a lot of disposable income opened up. Anyone remember the Simpsons where springfield goes broke so they decide to legalize gay marriage to make money?

I am shocked I tell you, shocked that a conservative would think this was a good idea.We all know that this marriage stuff just costs money, why if it wasn't for the church we'd have none of that stuff, just too damn expensive. How can we expect small business and even large business survive if they are expected to help pay for family plans on the health insurance. Oh wait....

whats amazing is that steele is actually willing to blame gays for small businesses possibly having to spend more on health care.
Reply
but if Steele is really interested in keeping helath care costs down while america spends more than any other nation on heathcare per person, why isn't he blaming the healthcare industry itself for the high costs and the possibility of more small businesses failing since that is who is actually to blame?
the prejudice of the GOP shows itself once again.
and its as ugly as ever.-

What do you mean amazing, this is the party that already blamed the gays planning to hold a parade in New Orleans for making it rain a lot. Is there seriously anything they would do at this point that would still amaze you.

Eventually, the USA will have to have universal health care coverage. So, questions about insurance for married gay couples is irrelevant. Here's why:
Reply
Tamiflu -- and other virus-fighting drugs like it -- are available only by prescription in the United States. How many low-paid, uninsured workers in the US will to go to a doctor for the prescription when they start to feel sick? The uninsured won't go to any health care professional because they can't afford it. They'll just show up for work sick.
Therefore, when the next deadly flu virus goes around, Mr. and Mrs. Wealthy are going to get the virus from those lowly, uninsured people who clean the mansion. The virus won't know Mr. and Mrs. Wealthy are rich, and so the Wealthy Family will get sick along with the workers who pass the virus on to them. When Mr. and Mrs. Wealthy understand this fact, they be more amenable to health care for the other lowly individuals around them. Therefore, on a practical basis, we can write off Michael Steele's comments about health care as irrelevant to the problem facing the US right now. Steele doesn't seem to have considered the problem of potential epidemics very carefully. Canada has national health care for everyone and will be better equipped to deal with any possible, deadly epidemic than the USA.-

This is extremely off topic, but I hope the US offers the option of either government sponsored or private insurance. I know enough people who work in health care/insurance, etc. to know countries like Canada and the UK are now relying on private insurance companies to subsidize costs due to budget shortfalls. Universal healthcare in a country with a population as large as ours is a precarious situation. I'm for it, but with caution.
Reply
My poor mom gives herself ulcers over universal healthcare because of what she experienced dealing with my grandmother's medicare and medicaid. It was a nightmare of paperwork, red tape and government stupidity. She feels if the current government-run healthcare is in this much of a shambles, she doesn't want the entirety of her healthcare in the government's hands. She wants her choice to go with a private company. She does have a point.

I think Michael Steele is even worse than Joe the plumber. And here's why:
Reply
Joe the plumber says he "has gay friends." They know where he stands and that he would not allow any of them around his kids. I think that statement is just absurd on its face and that Joe is really just a bigot who couldn't possibly really know any gay people and make such a ridiculous statement.
On the other hand, Steele - like most in the Republican Party - DOES probably know a few gay people, but chooses to spread propaganda that he knows is untrue to spread his ideological agenda...exploiting the fear of the "other" common among the shrinking Republican base. In my view, this makes him far more despicable than Joe....
I think most people know at least one or two of us. Many know us in their circle of friends. We are in every family tree. And even those who would rather call the civil recognition of gay couples civil unions - rather than gay marriage - usually want to do the right thing by us in recognizing our relationships and making sure that we are afforded all the rights due to us under law...
{sigh!} Retiring in New England is becoming increasingly appealing to me. -

If Mr. steele is correct than straight marriages would also be a burden on small businesses too! For example a straight single employee that gets married and then start a family! WOW that would be a burden! Using mr hip hop steele's criteria, i guess we should ban ALL marriages in order to save small business! lol!

My Fellow Americans: Isn't it ironic that we have been trying to eliminate AIDS and now we promote Gay Marriage. What is our government saying. One way to get rid of AIDS is if we make it legal for Gays to Catch AIDS. It is also ironic that a Black man is being called Prejudice. So, catering Gay weddings now is going to create jobs that will clear up the National Debt. I don't think so, it won't even take care of the Rubbish Removal for one day. Oh yah, Conservatives in California, I don't think so. No such thing as gay marriage? Hopefully we will change that and there will be no such thing. Is your Governor, (Swartz), Gay? I saw Obamas' Birth Certificate on Television an it was reported to be a phony. There you Go a Kenyan by Birth. Get him out of there!!!!! The Real American
