If you want to paint your Victorian home to reflect its heyday, you will probably want to use "authentic" Victorian-era colors and combinations. While many Victorian homes today are painted on neutral themes, this may not be the best course for a true Victorian atmosphere. "True" Victorian colors may surprise you, as they are not plain, nor always light.

Funny for someone living in a C14th City - now a very SMALL city, but nevertheless one with 2 Cathedrals - to contemplate that Victorian is "old" in the US..
Its true that our "suburbs" contain more than their share of ugly, toxic [radioactive] high-rise buildings called "panelaks" because they built of pre-fab panels. In the US they would be "projects", here they house all-and-sundry.

Hi altnrg, I LOVE the painted ladies. One really cool town is old Ft.Scott Kansas. They have restored the old fort, and have wonderful Victorian homes painted in the original colors. The streets are still original cobblestone.

One of my favorites was this old home that converted the coach house into a garage early 1900s. The lady of the house was uncomfortable backing up the car, so they installed a turnstile. She could drive in forward, and the round base could be pulled around, inside the building, so she could drive out forward too.

The restored painted ladies and all the trim are worth a trip to Ft. Scott if you appreciate such things.
