Her face looks very young and her clothing somewhat recent, appear to be pretty clean. Nowadays, there are many people who specialize in making snarky comments about others; they'd probably make a big deal out of this, say something sarcastic about how well she's dressed. Personally, I feel a near revulsion at those people who always think of homeless people as filthy, dressed in old and tattered garments.
Maybe the money she makes from the kindness of strangers allows her to buy decent things at thrift stores, and she launders them or has a friend do it for her. Who would want to begrudge her or trade places? Perhaps she has more class than many. It's definitely a picture of homeless persons that many people probably haven't seen before. I keep returning to this picture, can't get it out of my memory. Beautiful, but very haunting as well. (Photograph Taken with Permission)
