Melting ice could cause gravity shift -
Climate Change, Environment - The Independent »

Posted By xtremematt 5 months, 3 weeks ago in Science & Technology

The melting of one of the world's largest ice sheets would alter the Earth's field of gravity and even its rotation in space so much that it would cause sea levels along some coasts to rise faster than the global average, scientists said yesterday.

I thought the ice was "already melted" you morons.

Another nutty wacko heard from. First the average temperature is going down. The Antarctic Ice that is breaking off has an active volcano under it.

I find it fascinating that the right wingers are always the first to neg any story that has to deal with change, whether it's political change, climate change,or the change in a menu at their favorite micky d's.
Are they all so paranoid that the thought of change just scares them senseless?..LOL

I'm not going to argue about climate change but this fellow should maybe take a look at the history of our planet, there have been times when it has been considerably warmer than it is now and likely there were no ice shields at all and yet the planet continued to spin on its axes, I would not say that our rotation does not change but I think that there is an effect caused by hydraulic balancing that keeps us from getting to far out of balance.

OMG!! we are all going to die! the earth is spinning of its axis and then its going to crash into the moon! then the aliens form planet x are going to come and drink up all our cool, refreshing sea water and we all the fishees will die and we have nothing to eat, and then, and then... OMG!!!!

wait, that doesn't make any sense, CR is right, there has been plenty of wamr and cold periods in earhts history, even polar switches too, still no gravity changes.. cuz gravity s a function of mass and spin and some other factors on a global level, not on some micro level like continental weight.

but hey.. eveyone has the right to sell fear I guess.

I read another article on this subject and it mentioned how because of the rotation there could possibly be an unequal distribution of excess ocean water.
