If I understand him correctly, we can think well enough (with the aid of computers) to weaken the link between increased activity and energy consumption.
I'm one of those who has been skeptical of the impact renewable can have. There are a variety of reasons; most of which are pretty basic, if rather ignored by proponents. Also, it's hard to make a relevant comment without reading the report. I guess that personally I'm skeptical of anything that would depend on the long-term changing of demonstrated human behavior. We tend over the long run to do the easiest thing; not the optimal thing, as defined by someone. But to the extent that one can substitute automation for people one can build impovements into a system that can be maintained. Still, forecasting (and assuming) potential improvements is a risky business. I don't think I'd use this report as a basis to relax efforts on other fronts.
