Indeed it is....but don't expect most of them to wake up to that reality anytime soon. I maintain that - even in spite of some lackluster candidates in the field - the Democratic Party WILL gain more seats in 2010. The Republican Party right now is a drifting ship ....heading toward an iceberg they refuse to see....

155 years ago the Whigs ceased to exist. And the GOP may suffer the same fate next year if they do not promptly wake up. The wedge issues like gay rights and abortion are not resonating with the vast majority of younger voters ...and younger people also do not have the preconceived notions of liberalism and socialism that older voters have... AND they understand that preaching the mantra of limited government and lower taxes is no longer enough. SOLUTIONS must be offered.
The ground has shifted. The Democrats will be there to fill the vacuum. By the time the Republicans finally understand this it will likely already be too late....-

I live in the South and the Republicans are still very dominant. Their constituents are those easily swayed by cultural hot button issues that Republicans are so skilled and heartless in employing. But even some of these folks are waking up to the fact that these fools are no longer representing the people but a party and it's failed ideology.

Your preaching to the choir, man.... I live in the land of blue dog Democrats who are in denial that they are really Republicans....I suppose I can credit President Clinton for that....but since his presidency, Arkansas has supported Bush and McCain by large margins ....and in EACH election a gay rights question was on the ballot.

In 2010, Blanche Lincoln will easily win her re-election bid...but that's only because the Republican candidates keeping saying stupid s***. Like the other day, when Ken Hendrin made national news for calling New York Senator Chuck Schumer "that jew." Plantation Blanche may be conservative for a Democrat, but the Republicans here are downright unhinged. And in my little corner of the south, the racism is downright blatant.
I'll probably vote for the Green candidate next year for U.S. Senate.-
