Well the video was quite sexy..
Not at all like what my young daughter and I experienced in Prague when this plague on humanity first struck - a little later I guess, c.1992 [yes I do acknowledge on the other side that lives have been saved by these things - though whether that is as many as the lives that have been lost is also a moot point].
It was always VERY grey businessmen, usually foreign, standing in the street [maybe they couldn't get an indoor signal] bellowing, briefcase on the ground between their feet, sometimes between their knees - those we guessed were the ones that contained large wads of cash or espionage secrets..
My daughter delighted in mocking them by standing in front of them with an air-phone and imitating their gestures.
As a Dad who encouraged creativity and fun over manners and whose favourite motto was [is!] "epater la bourgeoisie" I could not fail to applaud her theatrical creativity. Of course there was no danger either of being chased down the street by these overfed turkeys.

Fast forward.. Its IMPOSSIBLE to survive in the real world here without a mobile phone and we're on the verge of dispensing with our fixed line.. The separate fax-line is long gone.
One reason for dispensing with the land-line line is the O2 Company, which I consider the most abysmal company in the world.
Plus we have the option to switch the land-line to Ufon [means ET!!] which provide a service whereby you can bring your fixed line with you - as it were..
These days its sometimes a delight to be out of signal-range [or to pretend that you are!]. On the downside are the occasions when you say "I'll call you when I'm on the way" and the battery dies or there's no signal at the crucial moment..

It doubled as a self defense weapon.
It must have weighed more than a modern laptop.
Things have changed really quickly.I have a friend that has his fathers first PC,a veritable antique from around 1989.
It's CPU is 30 MHz,it was totally maxed with ram,all 4 Megs of it and had a 10" CRT display with green, red, black and white.
When I compare it to my quad core @ 2.66GHz,3 gigs of ram,24" HD 24 bit display and a HD Radeon 4870 with a gig of memory,it makes me realise just how quickly technology h aschanged.
It took 66 years from the Wright Brothers first flight, to man landing on the moon.In the last 20 years cell phones and PC's and other gadgets, have done the equivalent, in less than a third of the time.

You could toast bread with them and use them as anchors if you want to quit drifting aimlessly around the lake. lol.

Now you know why they referred to those phones as a "brick.'

I do remember one of the first portable phones I used was carried in a shoulder bag. I can't remember if anyone called it a cell phone. That was 1985 and the company where I was working at the time had at least four.

Imagine the analog signal that went through the head at that time...but would it compair to the three signalas that liken a gps find your location today? two signals are through the head...be careful...the commercials look so appealing, yet look at what it does to us, we humans.

Anybody remember that DJ Jazzy Jeff / Fresh Prince video where he was "perpetrating" on his car phone?
