It was never going to be 'easy' to sort out this mess. The first problem is no one properly investigated claims of terrorist activities before the arrests. The M.O. was to grab anyone remotely suspect. Then sort them out later. The problem with that is that witnesses/informants get killed or displaced during all-out war. You end up with a big ******* contest. When frustration sets in then you begin to look for ways to extract information. So now no matter how many true terrorists there are we are the bad guys because of our methods.
We will probably never know how many were truly guilty when they were captured. We can be certain that we haven't made any friends and most likely assisted in creating many more terrorists than we ever imagined.

    If that was so than why is it so hard to bring a case against them? Should be cut and dry.

        If in fact we are fighting a "war on terror" are not he captured "terrorists" prisoners of war? Creating jargon such as "enhanced interrogation" and "enemy combatant" to justify otherwise unacceptable actions does not magically make them acceptable now.
        In Iraq there was one terrorist, Saddam Hussein. He's gone so why aren't we out of there? Were still there because our totally bungled military action there unleashed long seething sectarian animosities that led to the creation of thousands of more "terrorists".

        One problem, the war on terror is a war on an idea. So technically it will never end. A regular war usually ends decisively after one side gives up. This war is an ideological one and so there isn't any end in sight. So under those terms we could virtually hold them prisoner forever. That just doesn't morally sit right with me.

    And some weren't. If they had evedence against them as strong as you are trying to portray, why were they released? You simply don't want to admit that representatives of this country may have acted in a dispicable way toward innocent people. I'll ask you again, why were they released if the evidence was so compelling against them?

    If, in fact they were caught red handed as you suggest, There would have been no reason to not have already tired them rather than release them.

    TO ME THIS WAR IS A WAR OF RELIGION AND THE ENEMIES ARE IN THE MILLIONS AND WE ONLY HAVE ABOUT 500 OF THEM DO CHENEY REALLY BELIEVE KEEPING THEM THERE FOREVER WILL KEEP US FREE FROM DANGER THIS IS LAUGHABLE. IF THEY ARE HIGH GRADE PRISONERS WHY THEY DIDN'T TELL US WHERE BIN LADDEN IS THEY HAVE BEEN TORTURED. THEY ARE IN OUR HANDS SO WE CAN DO WHATEVER WE WANT WITH THEM SO LET DO IT AND STOP THIS POLITICAL CIRCUS WE STILL HAVE DEATH PENALTY IN SOME OF OUR STATES.
