BBC NEWS | Middle East | UN Gaza inquiry 'to proceed despite Israel' »
Posted By dissent 7 months, 2 weeks ago in NewsA UN inquiry into possible war crimes in Gaza will go ahead even if Israel does not co-operate, says Richard Goldstone, who leads the inquiry team.
Mr Goldstone said he was "disappointed" Israel had given no positive response, and said his team would enter Gaza via Egypt if Israel refused them visas.
The UN wants to investigate whether Israel and Hamas committed war crimes during the January conflict in Gaza.
Israel accuses the UN branch carrying out the mission of bias against it.
The UN Human Rights Council has been accused of singling out Israel unfairly, and is viewed by some as having less credibility than other parts of the UN.
But correspondents say the selection of Mr Goldstone, a respected South African war crimes prosecutor who is also Jewish, as head of the inquiry has given it greater clout.

"War Crimes" are always determined by the victor. This war is never going to end. I truly feel for those on each side who want nothing more than to make a life for themselves and their families. Too bad there are so many on each side bent on the total destruction of the other that they can't work for a real peace.

maybe. the palestinian people hate having their land turned into an israeli prison. they hate having it stolen for illegal israeli settlements. and they hate being butchered with impunity. the palestinians are the problem because they haven't learned to love it. when they do, israel will be happy and there will be peace.

no, israel's not the problem (sarcasm off)

What a joke to "recognize" a state - when that state refuses
Reply
to say where they begin or end!
FTA:
"Why should Palestinians recognise Israel when Israel doesn't recognise Palestine?" he asks, and points out that NO FINAL BORDERS have been agreed.(emphasis added)
"Which Israel are we supposed to recognise? Israel WITH the settlements? Israel WITH East Jerusalem? Or Greater Israel that includes Jordan, Lebanon, Syria…?"
Would anyone but a dimwit recognize their neighbor's right to
exist without knowing WHERE? Yeah sure - I recognize your right
to exist...........What do you mean that includes MY backyard
too?? If the Palestinians were to sign on to a deal like that,
then they really wouldn't be ready to rule themselves - as
Bibi Netanyahu is fond of saying. They'd be FOOLS.-

I would recommend you to visit planet Earth some time. You will be amazed to discover that there are many states on that beautiful planet and that these states are separated by borders. You will be amazed even more when you'll learn that (unlike on YOUR planet, Ante) the borders between states on planet Earth are determined by BOTH sides. If BOTH sides agree where the border should be then the border is determined. If they disagree then they fight until an agreement is reached. Alternatively, the sides can NEGOTIATE the exact placement of a border between them saving lives and money... but this is how it happen on planet Earth. On YOUR planet, Ante, each state determines its borders unilaterally as no state has a common border with any other state. -

It's an interesting question. Maybe because Israel recognized Palestine back in 1948 when it accepted the UN Partition Resolution 181?

Well, one may ask the very same question about Syria. WHY should anyone recognize Syria considering that NO FINAL BORDERS between Syria and Israel have been agreed.(emphasis added)? -

Absolutely. If neighbors did not recognize the right of each other to exist they would kill each other and there would be no humans on Earth... but on YOUR planet where each person lives on his/her own island having no common borders and no neighbors it's different.
> Yeah sure - I recognize your right to exist...........What do you mean that includes MY backyard too??
On planet Earth this means the the neighbors who recognized the right of each other to exist may start NEGOTIATING the exact placement of the borders between them thus determining WHO is the owner of the backyard in question. Not recognizing the right of your neighbor to live does not necessarily make the backyard YOURS, Ante. It only may cause your neighbor to do the same and (if he is smarter and stronger than you) he may decide one day that he had enough, throw you out and finally be able to exist in peace... in your backyard, too.

It is time to revoke the recognition of israel by the international community and get back to the UN's origianl plan of a single state in Palestine with equal rights for all independent of race or religion. Americans should be ashamed that israel-firster traitors to the basic principles of American democracy have held our government to ransom for so long.
