A UN inquiry into possible war crimes in Gaza will go ahead even if Israel does not co-operate, says Richard Goldstone, who leads the inquiry team.

Mr Goldstone said he was "disappointed" Israel had given no positive response, and said his team would enter Gaza via Egypt if Israel refused them visas.

The UN wants to investigate whether Israel and Hamas committed war crimes during the January conflict in Gaza.

Israel accuses the UN branch carrying out the mission of bias against it.

The UN Human Rights Council has been accused of singling out Israel unfairly, and is viewed by some as having less credibility than other parts of the UN.

But correspondents say the selection of Mr Goldstone, a respected South African war crimes prosecutor who is also Jewish, as head of the inquiry has given it greater clout.

"War Crimes" are always determined by the victor. This war is never going to end. I truly feel for those on each side who want nothing more than to make a life for themselves and their families. Too bad there are so many on each side bent on the total destruction of the other that they can't work for a real peace.

What a joke to "recognize" a state - when that state refuses
to say where they begin or end!
      FTA:
"Why should Palestinians recognise Israel when Israel doesn't recognise Palestine?" he asks, and points out that NO FINAL BORDERS have been agreed.(emphasis added)

"Which Israel are we supposed to recognise? Israel WITH the settlements? Israel WITH East Jerusalem? Or Greater Israel that includes Jordan, Lebanon, Syria…?"

Would anyone but a dimwit recognize their neighbor's right to
exist without knowing WHERE? Yeah sure - I recognize your right
to exist...........What do you mean that includes MY backyard
too?? If the Palestinians were to sign on to a deal like that,
then they really wouldn't be ready to rule themselves - as
Bibi Netanyahu is fond of saying. They'd be FOOLS.

It is time to revoke the recognition of israel by the international community and get back to the UN's origianl plan of a single state in Palestine with equal rights for all independent of race or religion. Americans should be ashamed that israel-firster traitors to the basic principles of American democracy have held our government to ransom for so long.
