Gateway Pundit: Cheney Outshines Obama... Dear Leader Forgets Defense Chief's Name During Security Speech »

Posted By pc25 5 months, 2 weeks ago in News

1 of 1

Dick Cheney and Barack Obama gave their security speeches today.

The American Enterprise Institute posted Cheney's speech.
This line was good where Dick shamed Obama for releasing top-secret material:

Releasing the interrogation memos was flatly contrary to the national security interest of the United States. The harm done only begins with top secret information now in the hands of the terrorists, who have just received a lengthy insert for their training manual. Across the world, governments that have helped us capture terrorists will fear that sensitive joint operations will be compromised.

excerpts of Cheneys speech can be found here

    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/05/21/cheney-in-th...

Actually, there is a middle ground; the point of the torture memos was finding it. That’s the only note that’s a tiny bit off here, though. Read the full transcript at the Standard, as there’s so much to enjoy about this speech that everyone’s bound to have a different favorite moment. For Frum, it was Cheney calling Obama out for covering up information about whether the interrogations worked. For me, it’s the second half of the clip you’re about to see.

I think that there must be real fear in the minds of our allies. Obama is unpredictable. When it comes to security he keeps his stuff secret, but feels free to open the door to our enemies.

That was one heck of a speech! My favorite parts:

"For reasons the administration has yet to explain, they believe the public has a right to know the method of the questions, but not the content of the answers".

    and talking about the terrorists:
"And they see the american government caught up in arguments about interrogation, they don't stand back in awe of our legal system and wonder if they misjudged us all along. Instead they see what they were hoping for - our unity gone, our resolve shaken, our leaders distracted. In short, they see weakness and opportunity".

I only saw a short clip of Cheney's speech, but reading the full transcript just blows me away and makes me grateful that people did what they had to do and that being a true leader is making the hard, unpopular decisions sometimes, instead of the easy, popular ones. It brought back a lot of memories of how it felt on 9/11.

Pc, why did dick fail to mention the anthrax attacks since he mentioned that we'd been kept safe since 911?

Just another example of his lies, you fool bigot!

ROTF. The only folks who think Darth outshined President Obama are the 29%ers. (Or is that 24%ers now?)

The monumental Bush blunder of invading and occuping Iraq is going to haunt the US for years even decades to come. Since it was the Darth camp that was pushing this agenda on the President I think Darth shares most of the responiblibty.

I see that donald51 and antibrainwasher have nothing to add beyond their usual ad hominem attacks. It is obvious that they have no defense for their leader since they appear to be unwilling to cite from his speech as others herein have cited from Cheney's speech, nor have they refuted any of the points made in Cheney's speech.

Cheney sounded like Mussolini, speaking in absolutes, black and white....and of course he is RIGHT, there can be no detractors.

    ALWAYS right.

Using typical Republican specious rationale that because something did NOT happen....his policies are somehow responsible for the apparent lack of a phantom outcome.

    Laughable.

Judging from domestic approval....the American public (save a few paranoid ideological whack-Os) believes Cheney is a dinosaur adhering to nearly extinct policy.

Cheney's conventional war strategy is as obsolete as cold war policy.

Thank God this college flunkie no longer has a say in policy making.

Of course Cheney outshined Obama. Cheney's been around longer, he's smarter and understands the game better. Cheney's worried about protecting U.S. citizens while Obama bin Laden is only interested in civil rights. Obama going to get a rude awakening if we get hit by terrorists again. Didn't that terror cell bust in NYC teach him anything?

Cheney's speech shows what a difference there is between a experienced Statesman and a wet behind the ears inexperience community organizer who now is in a job that's way beyond his ability and his pay grade.

Did anybody tell Dick Cheney that he is NOT VP anymore? For 8 years, Cheney was the acting President while Bush slept. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice ran this nation like a 'secret society' or the 'Mafia'. I believe Obama ought to authorize a special inquiry into the Iraq war, the patriot act and Bush's violation of our civil liberties and the US Constitution.
Dick Cheney needs to STOP interfering in Obama's White House and mind his own 'oil business' and contracts he has in Iraq. Dick Cheney is a 'war monger', an extremist radical and last but not least, in POOR HEALTH! One simple advice for Dick:go to GITMO to spend your retirement and lose weight!!!

Well, I guess we Americans need to look on the bright side-- at least, in yesterday's speech, the Teleprompter-Reader in Chief did NOT talk to his Teleprompter Operator during his speech.

Perhaps he IS maturing and learning a bit as he tries to "grow into his job........."

Cheney does however make America look bad.

The issue here is not Cheney, the issue is Obama. Obama is the President. Wow, he looked great, he spoke so well, he is so lofty, so intelligent, looks great in a suit, he's young, spoke about his values and why his father came to America. That's terrific. I'm happy for him.

The rest was the sloppy confusion we've come to expect from him. For example:

          1) He wants to close GITMO and release the detainees. How noble and good, but without a plan he ran into criticism. The response, well Bush released 500+ detainees, and that was bad. Which is it?

          2) GITMO is a recruiting poster for terrorists. Well, The Africa embassy bombings, the USS Cole, and 9/11 were all pre-GITMO. Since GITMO, there hasn't been an attack at the US of that magnitude.

          3) Terrorists are signing up because of GITMO. Yeah, and transfering them to solitary confinement at SuperMax prisons will make the terrorists feel alright and end the jihad. Besides, I thought he said there were no more terrorists and that the "war" was over???

          4) Enhanced interrogation didn't yield anything of value. Says who? Release the reports and let us see. That's what would be transparent.

          5) He wants to try terrorists in civil courts, but what if they are released on technicalities. "No we'll make sure that doesn't happen." Kind of like an old wester: "Let's have a fair trial and then hang them." How lofty and upholding of rule of law.

          6) Its a mess we inherited. This again??? What about the mess you are creating? Address that.

There's more. Just a bunch of kumbaya rhetoric without meaning and if the situation was not so serious I be laughing my ass off.

Make all you want of Cheney's little self promotion tour but the fact stands that while the claim is made by Cheney that they, the Bush administration, kept America safe they also were the ones who were in charge when the 9/11 attacks happened. There were people in the administration that tried to warn about a possible attack and they were ignored.
In a report written in September 1999 the Federal Research Division wrote a report. "The report, entitled the "Sociology and Psychology of Terrorism: Who Becomes a Terrorist and Why?," warned the executive branch that bin Laden's terrorists might hijack an airliner and dive bomb it into the Pentagon or other government building." This is a direct quote from a CBS News article.
The following is a direct quote from a CBS news article. "White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said that while President Bush was told last summer that bin Laden's al Qaeda network might hijack planes, "until the attack took place, I think it's fair to say that no one envisioned that [using planes as suicide bombs] as a possibility."
It seems however Mr Fleischer was either ignorant of the Federal Research Division report or the Bush administration failed to act on what seems to have been actionable intelligence.
I wonder why Cheney failed to mention that in his self aggrandizing sixteen page prepared speech? Is reading off of paper different than using a teleprompter there vettenut?
Spin it any way you want PC25, but we got our asses handed to us on Sept 11,2001 because somebody was not doing their job and Bush/Cheney were fully in charge at that time and had been for seven months. The rest is embroidered fiction all made up in the aftermath of a possibly preventable attack. This country was duped by fear and propaganda much of which has proven to be fallacious claims of WMD and connections between al Qaeda and Iraq. Cheney's speech was no more than a continuation of trying to scare us all into believing that all three hundred million people in this country are in mortal danger every second. To me Cheney is no more than a frightened little man trying to cover the mistakes of his past.

Wow...someone above complained about liberals name-calling and using ad hominem attacks, and yet, I've seen the President called Obama Bin Laden, Der Leader, and Teleprompter-in-Chief, while the VP was called a gasbag.

Holey cow, you people really don't know the meaning of the word, "hypocrite", do you?

The Republican motto, as usual, is, "Do as I say, not as I do."

I find it interesting that the Prop people find this story 'controversial'.
OBama gave his point of view as a new president with little or no real experience in dealing with terrorism then Cheney gave his opinion from the view of actual experience in dealing with terrorism.
Is the inexperienced OBama more right than the experience Cheney? Time will tell

I saw our nation's president - providing a clear expression of long held, traditional American values ... and encouragement to never set those values aside ... to those who would use FEAR to control our lives ... our spirit ... our dignity.

I also saw Dick Cheney ... for some reason ... Mainstream Media was giving this pathetic draft dodger an equal footing with President Obama.

Why did Mainstream Media do this?

I guess Mainstream Media tipped their hand ... they supported Neo-Conservatism ... and FEAR all along.

Never in the course of history, has Mainstream Media given an EX-VP ... such a privileged position ... equal stature ... with a freely elected president.

No longer can my fellow Right Wing Reactionaries claim Mainstream Media is Biased to the Left ... as if they ever could ... in all honesty.

But after last night ... should anyone rant on about Liberal Bias in Media ... they shall look the complete fool.

My Fellow Americans: Well, it's easy to see who all the scared ones are and not for the destruction of America, but for the lost of their inept President. Squirming with name calling, back to Bush statements, reversed responders, Whining and more whining, along with the usual denial. Yeh, Listening to Cheney scared a lot of Un-Patriots and restore the confidence of the more sane faction of the population. What do you think the Taliban would do with the Nuclear Bombs they are about to get their hands on in about 15 Miles? Do you think they would spare Obama and destroy Cheney only? Do you really feel safer now than you did just one year ago? Do you think you could survive multiple Nuclear Explosions? Who do you think is really telling the truth? Do you trust President Obama as much now as you did when he was first elected? Ask yourself are you being Suckered or are you not being Suckered? Do you trust Pelosi, Gueitner, Biden, Reed, Napilatano, Me? The Real American
