Posted By klynchsf 7 months, 1 week ago in News

The heart of the issue is whether or nor Proposition 8 is a valid amendment to the California Constitution.

A website article claiming that San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom had asked the high court to delay the ruling turned out to be false. Many expected the ruling yesterday, which would have coincided with the 30th anniversary of the White Night riots in San Francisco. The riots followed former city supervisor Dan White's conviction on manslaughter charges instead of murder for killing Harvey Milk and mayor George Moscone. The riots were depicted in the movie Milk .

I am anxious to see how the court in California rules. If they side with marriage equality supporters, they will have set an example for the voters that to amend the California Constitution in such a radical way, they must do it properly. In other words, they will make clear that equality is not limited to just one class of citizens. All are equal, or none are.

Thank you, klynchsf, for keeping us informed on this vitally important issue. Gay rights are civil rights ....pure and simple. I'm glad to know the rumors were false. And I anxiously await Tuesday's ruling....

Doesn't look good for equal marriage rights, alas! The court seems reluctant to frustrate the will of the people.

But if not now-eventually. And discrimination against people who wish to marry others of their own sex will be a relic, like that which prevented inter-racial marriage.

Quite right, Scott, you're only defeated if you quit the fight.

I hate to disagree, but if this goes to the ninth circuit,it's all over. Not only will it slam the electorate once again it will probably be enhanced with affirmative action. The court has to find a reason to trash the voters, total civil rights is the only fork in the road, well its not exactly a fork ,more like a hard left turn.
