Or...a darker solution is to somehow recruit more people into the religious right. I think that's the route many of them are taking instead of moving to the center. Most of the Republican statements I've seen are advocating more religious intolerance, not less--circling the wagons, so-to-speak. And the vast majority of TV religious leaders are Christian fundamentalists, so people still don't see they have choices and continue to be exposed to endless intimidation.

Still, I'm hopeful. I think the original focus of the Republican party was more realistic than what we see from either major party today.-

By realistic I hope you are meaning less government , fiscally responsible and less interference with each of us on a personal level. I don't know what the original ideas were of the two parties down there were but up here they were not that much different except the liberals seemed to always want to create a beaurocracy to handle every situation that came up, which eventually led to way to much government. it seems that both parties up here now do the same thing and from what I see is that things are sort of similiar down there.

They both want to enlarge government in different ways and interfere with both different and some of the same rights, it seems. The problem seems to be the ignorance or indoctrination of many of the people. There are limited resources and everyone keeps spending more than we have.
