Red State: Jesus Would Have Approved Waterboarding »

Red State continues to push the argument that Jesus would have been cool with torture: "It’s likely even Jesus would have OK’d water boarding." It's pretty sad that the Christian Right in this country has been politicized to the point that, in defense of their preferred political ideology, they have been reduced to perverting Jesus' supposedly loving message of peace and caring for your fellow man to justify torture.

Wow. That "roetenks" is seriously missing the point of Christianity. I'm not even Christian and I can see that.

After claiming absurdly that Jesus would have tortured, he goes on to say, "For that matter, He even died to save all humans."

Well, duh. He allowed himself to be killed, rather than fight. He didn't kill his enemies.

Anyone that agrees with or believes that Red State cr*p needs to SIT DOWN and RE-READ the New Testament.

Jesus was a pacifist. He said "love your enemies and do good to those who persecute you".

Even though he struggled with it in the garden the night before he was crucified, he WILLINGLY subjected himself to that cruelty and shame and disgrace and torturous death.

Some like to say that the incident of Jesus throwing the "money-changers" out of the temple proves that he would agree with war. That is SO FAR from the truth that it is crazy.

The money-changers were using the Temple for their OWN gain (sound familiar?) and they were also cheating their customers (sound familiar?). All that had NOTHING to do with violence or war or vengeance or retribution.

ANYONE that 'uses' Jesus and the God of the New Testament to justify war and torture is no better than the Pharisees of Jesus' day. The Pharisees USED 'religion' to gain power for themselves and over others, and they twisted the Old Testament law to benefit only themselves. Jesus called them "white washed tombs full of dead men's bones".

      Don't you understand?

A conservative Jesus would WALK ON THE WET FACES OF THE WATER-BOARDED.

      A miracle...

The Fundamentalist Christians are really doing their best to kill Jesus Christ again.

Was it Edgar Cayce who said, "You can read anything you want into the New Testament and you can read anything out of it"?

There is only one reason that anyone would make this claim and that is to make themselves feel better about their own attitudes of torture.

Oh dear, don't these people know by now that the Old Testament is for the Jews and the New Testament is for Christians. In addition to this how does anyone KNOW what Jesus would think or do? You may surmise but you cannot possibly KNOW.

the idea that jesus would have condoned torture is utterly ridiculous, and comes from the minds of people who are trying to justify their own ugly fears and hatred.

but no one out here in the real world is buying that crap.

torture only exposes the weakness of the torturer.

and besides, its irrelevant anyway since its the constitution we ultimately look to for governance and guidance of our country, not the bible.

Both sides go on about what a fictional caricature would say or do but nobody has pointed out the most vial and disgusting part of this article. That is that about half Americans support breaking international and domestic law, not to mention moral law, and torture people.

The red states, where the people claim to be Christian, have no idea what Christianity is nor stands for. If they read their Christian bible, they would understand it.

Jesus would be so proud of all you liberals for killing babies.
Abortion is murdering life that was created by God.
        Thou shalt not kill.
        Especially defenseless babies.

Doesnt surprise me any. Alot of these "hard core" Christian Fundamentalist are fine with believing that everyone that disagrees with their religion and religious philosophy is going to suffer for eternity in a firey hell anyways. What is waterboarding in comparision to that.

I think if Jesus were to do it, it would be changed to wineboarding.

I don't find it too far of a stretch to say that if Jesus would have approved torture, then he would certainly approve of flying planes into buildings or terrorist nuclear bombs.

My Fellow Americans: God wants us in Heaven, Allah wants us in Hell. God sent his Son Jesus to remove from us our Original Sin. He was not sent to remove any of our sins in the Future. He did give us a set of rules (Ten Commandments)to follow if we wanted to make getting into Heaven easier or period. Then he left us alone to our own failings. He left Satan around to make our decisions a bit harder. Now, we have a conflict between Good (God) and Evil (Devil) which we must use our own intelligence to decipher. Killing Babies to some is Fine but is against the rules to get to Heaven (Ten Commandments). Killing others is fine with some (Murder, War, Marterism) but still against the rules. Everything destructive (Murder, Rape, Theft, Sodomy, Adultery etc.) This is what propels the Demons in us all and only the strong morally willed individuals survive the wrath of the Devil. If you want to get into the Heavenly Kingdom than following these rules Religiously will help. Torture not a Rule. Water Boarding is a made up fantasy idea of Torture within certain Radical Left Wingers Factions. Still Torture not against the Rules. Drunk Driving, not against the Rules. Self Defense, not against the Rules. So, these rules apply to a certain groups of people, (Primarily Christians), not to others. Muslims don't have a set of these Rules so everything we consider Satanic is just Godly in the Muslims way of living. So, what rules do we follow? Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Mormon, Protestant, etc. The rules are different for all of us so how do we settle on a level playing field. Well it looks like While in Rome do as the Romans do. It is Survival of the Fittest, Kill or be Killed, We do What We Have to Do. As long as we oppose Evil we are in the Graces of God. The Real American

Yep, that Jesus character would have really gotten into this Torture thing. That's exactly what He was all about.
It's pretty amazing just how far man will stoop to justify his actions, but to say that Jesus would have approved, the Christianity would have approved and therefore God Himself would approve................the lies, deceit, divisiveness and incompetence continues with Flag, Bible, Jesus and God all in toe. The abyss continues to grow and Republicans continue digging away at their own ineptitude.

              Jesus was a liberal.

Jesus and God are against water boarding among other things.

Why is this so hard to understand? Unless you're one who is trying to justify it. Trying to rewrite US history so that we always supported water boarding and never condemned it.

Rose by any other name is still a rose and still smells the same. Doesn't matter if you change the name or definition of it. Same with water boarding.

My Fellow Pretend Americans: So, Tchef, what do you believe in if you are an Atheist. You better go back to school because you can't get into Heaven. Neither can a criminal, terrorist, murderer, or any other Commandment breaker. What makes you infer that it is my religion. Jsmith3244 so you are the religious authority about What Jesus would have done and not have done. His fight is against the Devil, (Muslim Religion). So, you can speak for Jesus can you, yet, you lie in judgement on all others as well. Did I say I was a Republican I may be a Democrat for all you don't know. Ciera-Marie it is you turn to acknowledge that Jesus was not a Liberal. He stated it himself, "I am definately not a Liberal", I forget which book. Also on last note: The Legal Definition of Water Boarding. It is not Torture. That is the Legal Definition. I'm pretty sure Jesus would not care one way or the other. He did his part and now everything else is up to us. If you feel it is torture, so be it but it is not. So, I guess that is the final word. What about a dead rose? It has no smell, so there. The Real American
