I want know where she stands on the issues of constitutionality.

The extreme's right and left, have been trying to legislate from the bench and I don't want that from any judge.
Preserve personal liberty and watch corporate liberty, preserve peoples rights and maintain the Bill of Rights while limiting the erosion of our freedoms.
This nation wasn't founded so people could become billionaires at the expense of others world wide. Nor was it founded to give handouts to the lazy who will not work to support themselves and their families.
It is based upon the freedom to worship as one chooses without a government sponsored or enforced state religion. Yes it was founded by those seeking to escape the rule of Englands Church and king.
We have taken what was once a beautiful thing and turned it into a political monster.
It needs to end. We need to appoint justices that understand the wisdom of our forefathers not the greed of the idiots today.-

--I hear what you're saying and I agree in theory but I'm also skeptical that there are many people who really know what qualifies as "legislating from the bench." It's lost it's meaning AFAIC. -

I like how everyone automatically assumes that any and all criticism of sotomayor has to be unfounded.
Reply
Isn't there anyone else that agrees that we should at least look into the history of her interpretations of the Constitution and how they compare to other courts and appeals?
I know you all automatically adore her, because she was appointed by Obama. But I don't care if Mother Teresa appointed her. We don't need any more people to misinterpret the Constitution any more than what we have already endured. What got us in this mess was precisely 8+ years of disobeying the Constitution.
With any luck, Rush Limbaugh and the other detractors are wrong.

So come on cowboygrandpa tell us who, when, where and how the extreme right has ever legislated from the bench of the supreme court. Of course, you can't anymore than you know where Sotomayer or even Obama stands on constitutionality.

There is no reason for republicans to walk a fine line while opposing Sotomayor. If like this author you think the GOP should consider her sex and race and because of them tread lightly then it's just about the next election isn't it? I know that is the reason the democrats play identity politics but if the GOP does this they would become just another weaker version of the democrat party. If you play identity politics just to get votes then the nation is not being served. Can you liberal progressives grasp this concept? Prolly not. lol

Her power as a SCJ is actually less than her role on the appeals court
Reply
1. On the court, she is one opinion of nine ... before, she made the decision alone. To be overturned, it had to go to the SC.
2. Opinions are written on both sides. She may or may not write either opinion, but they explain how and why the decision was made and how it relates to the Constitution.
3. In some cases, she might be better informed than a white person of a more substantial background, but on others, the white person might be better informed. Her statement made was not very politically correct, but certainly not that damning either. Who hasn't said something they might regret later.
I say again, she will be grilled heavily, but she's been through that before also.
She probably will be a good addition to the court. Time will tell ... -

That's typical liberal tactics. So if U criticize a person who's of a different race then you're a racist. How stupid and narrow minded is that? It's pretty bad. What about her merits? We already know Sotomayor is a racist and a discriminator but were not supposed to say anything about that. No double standard there huh liberals?

Merit as in graduating second in her class from Princeton? As far as racism she mentioned how everyone is shaped by their life experience and that she had seen what racism is like first hand but her goal is to rise above judging based on that experience and do what is just.

--Baseless. You absolutely cannot support this with facts (but we're used to that).
