Rush Limbaugh Slams Judge Sotomayor: 'Racist' and a 'Hack' »
Posted By TimALoftis 5 months, 2 weeks ago in Political NewsWhile Republicans on Capitol Hill appear to be adopting a wait-and-see approach with Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh is taking direct aim at President Obama's choice for the high court.
Calling Sotomayor a "racist" and a "hack" on his radio show Tuesday, Limbaugh took particular issue with a 2001 speech at Berkeley during which she stated a "wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."
"Here you have a racist – you might want to soften that, and you might want to say a reverse racist," Limbaugh said of that comment.

Here are a few Limbaugh gems to consider.
"Here you have a racist – you might want to soften that, and you might want to say a reverse racist," Limbaugh said of that comment.
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2549
As a young broadcaster in the 1970s, Limbaugh once told a black caller: "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back." A decade ago, after becoming nationally syndicated, he mused on the air: "Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?"
In 1992, on his now-defunct TV show, Limbaugh expressed his ire when Spike Lee urged that black schoolchildren get off from school to see his film Malcolm X: "Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out."
In a similar vein, here is Limbaugh's mocking take on the NAACP, a group with a 90-year commitment to nonviolence: "The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies."
When Carol Moseley-Braun (D-IL) was in the U.S. Senate, the first black woman ever elected to that body, Limbaugh would play the "Movin' On Up" theme song from TV's Jeffersons when he mentioned her. Limbaugh sometimes still uses mock dialect -- substituting "ax" for "ask"-- when discussing black leaders.
Limbaugh also made an ugly reference two years ago to the father of Madonna's first child, a Latino, as "a gang member-type guy" -- an individual with no gang background.
Once, in response to a caller arguing that black people need to be heard, Limbaugh responded: "They are 12% of the population. Who the hell cares?"

"There's some little strife going on in Venezuela with that wacko, Cesar Chavez, down there. Hugo. Hugo, Cesar--whatever. A Chavez is a Chavez. We've always had problems with them." -- Rush Limbaugh
(César Chávez was the founder of the United Farm Workers union. )
"You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray. We miss you, James. Godspeed." -- Rush Limbaugh
(James Earl Ray is the the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King.)

"Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it." -- Rush Limbaugh
"Sonia Sotomayor is not the brain that they're portraying her to be. She's not a constitutional jurist," Limbaugh also said.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/05/26/sotomayor.b...
Sotomayor later graduated summa cumlaude from Princeton University and went on to attend Yale law school, where she was editor of the Yale Law Journal.

A college drop-out, Limbaugh knew that he wanted to work in radio from boyhood.

"I need to tell you today that part of what you have heard and read is correct. I am addicted to prescription pain medication."
Law enforcement sources said last week that Limbaugh's name had come up during an investigation into a black market drug ring in Palm Beach County, Florida. The sources said that authorities were looking into the illegal sale of the prescription drugs OxyContin and hydrocodone. -

Can you imagine what Romney, Powell, Jeb Bush, McCain, and other major Republican party heads are thinking about Rush right now?
Reply
They have to be shaking their heads, taking a heavy sigh, closing their eyes, and distancing themselves from him as much as they can...
If the party falters any more, they only have to look at Rush for their undoing... -

It seems that former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R) agrees with Limbaugh.

FTA: Same congressman who called for bombing Mecca, calling Miami a Third World city, singing the praises of torturing terrorists, carousing with eugenics proponents or singing Dixie in front of a Confederate flag.
well at least he is a former congressman.-

I would not go so far as to call her a racist, but it is troubling that she would say something like that. There is no evidence that a person who has "been there" and "done that" is going to uphold the rule of law better than someone who has not.
Reply
Having said that, I think Judge Sotomayor is a good pick. She has a ton of experience and has only been overturned 3 times out of 400 cases sent to the Supreme Court and those were all on procedural issues not on matters of law.-

For the record, and since it's likely this comment will be incorrectly quoted hundreds of times over the next few weeks, here's a link to the full lecture in which Sotomayor spoke the line about the "wise Latina woman" and the "white male":
Reply
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/15/us/politics/15ju...
Reading her words in context, one can see Sotomayor said that she "would hope [emphasis mine] that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."
I won't paste the entire speech here, but this longer quote gives a better sense of what she was saying than the one-line sound bite we're getting from conservatives:
Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences, a possibility I abhor less or discount less than my colleague Judge Cedarbaum, our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging. Justice O'Connor has often been cited as saying that a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases. I am not so sure Justice O'Connor is the author of that line since Professor Resnik attributes that line to Supreme Court Justice Coyle. I am also not so sure that I agree with the statement. First, as Professor Martha Minnow has noted, there can never be a universal definition of wise. Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life.
Let us not forget that wise men like Oliver Wendell Holmes and Justice Cardozo voted on cases which upheld both sex and race discrimination in our society. Until 1972, no Supreme Court case ever upheld the claim of a woman in a gender discrimination case. I, like Professor Carter, believe that we should not be so myopic as to believe that others of different experiences or backgrounds are incapable of understanding the values and needs of people from a different group. Many are so capable. [Again, emphasis is mine.] As Judge Cedarbaum pointed out to me, nine white men on the Supreme Court in the past have done so on many occasions and on many issues including Brown.
My wish is that people here save the link to the full speech and can give the context, including the section emphasized in the quote above, to counter anyone who quotes only the one line to assert Sotomayor is a "reverse racist." -

The problem with calling her a racist is simple....one comment does not a racist make...What was the context of that statement...She might have been talking about making Hispanic dishes or a number of other things that "this white man" would have no idea of..

This was all expected from the right.Does anyone on here think that if Obama had nominated Jesus himself that the right wouldn't say he was a racist also.
It is a pathetic attempt to fire up that twenty percent that still follow rush and hannity. -

Generally speaking, those with people experience often become better suited at social jobs like judges, social workers, policemen, etc. Experience with the interactions of a diverse culture is definitely an asset in this case, IMHO. Cultural experience is something generally deficient in the court at this time.

Limbaugh is one of the creeps who made it popular among neocons to call prominent members of minority groups racist. According to White Supremacists and other hate groups, the real victims are always white. It is no surprise who Limbaugh attracts. If the GOP and Uncle Tom - Michael Steele keep kissing his fat ass, there will not be much left to the party come November.

He knows if he says something outrageous enough he will get airplay on the "MSM (sic)". It's his schtick. Otherwise he IS irrelevant. And if he gets enough grief for what he dare say he will fall back on his ol' "I'm just a lovable entertainer" line. It's like Kim Jung il pretending to be Jay Leno.

He does everything he can to make sure he isn't ignored. It is no wonder he and Cheney are such b-tt buddies. I don't however see how their bloated ego's can fit into a single room together. Anyone who considers this sort of thinking as the future of America is living in the past. Republicans are going to have to distance themselves from this sort of garbage if they expect to remain a valid entity. -

All he knows how to do is take things out of context, or lie, or ridicule. It is very likely that he thinks his listeners are fools because he gets to laugh at them all every time he collects his paycheck. -

There is a point at which social respponsibility has to come to play. Limpaw crosses over that all to make a buck. If you think about it its quite ironic that he is championbed as the voice of the Republicans when he will adopt any position that someone throws a dollar at him for. Then again that IS a trait of the neo's.

That's pretty funny coming from a guy who once denounced all drug addicts as worthless recidivist's, only to find out later that he was a pillhead himself for a for instance.
Shows yah that he knows alot about nothing, and so much for his credibility. But, as PT Barnum would say: "There's a sucker born every minute." Which would explain his legion of fans who would listen to him, and believe every word that he says as bible fact.
Get wise ...Limburger is cheesy! -

I think it was a stroke of genius for the democrats to go on record saying that they think Limbaugh is the figure head of the current republican party. Limbaugh, being the narcissist that he is, took the bait hook line and sinker. Now every time he opens his mouth and says something outrages the majority of Americans think GOP. The moderates of the GOP must be crying in their scotch.

to try to block this woman will alienate the remain hispanics in the republican base.... not to mention women.. apparently self made women.. and since she was first appointed by GHW Bush.. doesn't seem they can claim her a liberal..
Obama's playing Limbaugh and the republicans like a fiddle.. and there are some as evidenced by many posters here on Propeller.. that are dancing to the music.. without knowing who the real maestro is...
the more Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck keep opening their mouths.. the more people realize them for exactly what they are.. course there are some still follow.. but when the look around their numbers are dwindling.. All put together do not have enough to win a NATIONAL ELECTION.. -

Thank you Rush, you have once again fulfilled the Democratic expectation and are guiding once again the Republican Party into dark waters. You are the answer to every Liberal minded American's dream.............You've pushed the Reagan Democrats aside, force Independents to abandon the Reagan 'Big Tent', belittled women for decades and now are about to fire off some body shots against a Puerto Rican (Hispanic) Judge. You're about out of Races, but still have the Asian voters to rely upon for your GOP candidates in the future.

But you've still got your 'Ditto Heads' all 17-20% of the Nations voters apparently follow your every word. Bless you Rush, without you and your efforts, no way the Democrats could have succeeded!-
