more specifically "Some people say that we should take hardened terrorists and release them into our malls and schools. I, however, think this is dangerous." a little bit of logic and a little bit of rhetoric can be a dangerous thing. it's too bad we don't require Logic and Rhetoric 101 in high school.

lessons in retoric and debate? and maybe fingerpainting?
Perhaps metavirus and charleson can pretend they believe
we are less than they; but I say, - God Bless America!
Let us save it from the hordes of straw men who even now
are massing on our borders, hiding in our closets,
teaching our children the glories of hay!
I don't think so. And neither does my country!
I can talk like this all day long .-

Whatever happened to the "War on Straw men"?
Reply
Have we allowed them to win?
You're either with the straw men, or you're against them.
Might I suggest we all go shopping so we can fight the straw men there so we dont have to fight them here?
I mean, we HAVE NOT suffered a single casualty from straw men in the past 8 years.
God Bless America, indeed! -

it's a new feature i'm introducing, mostly as a public service because, e.g., it seems that some folks (even at the NY Times) don't understand what a strawman is and aren't able to recognize that they're employing a strawman to advance their arguments. i think we'd all be better off here if we could raise the tone a bit and cut out some of the childish rhetoric people sometimes employ

P.S. It's funny that you use a great example of a strawman in your reply: "Perhaps metavirus and charleson can pretend they believe we are less than they." I don't believe that and never implied it. I may disagree with some people and criticize some methods of argument but I don't look at anyone as "less than". Did you do that on purpose or was it an accident? :)
