it's a new feature i'm introducing, mostly as a public service because, e.g., it seems that some folks (even at the NY Times) don't understand what a strawman is and aren't able to recognize that they're employing a strawman to advance their arguments. i think we'd all be better off here if we could raise the tone a bit and cut out some of the childish rhetoric people sometimes employ

P.S. It's funny that you use a great example of a strawman in your reply: "Perhaps metavirus and charleson can pretend they believe we are less than they." I don't believe that and never implied it. I may disagree with some people and criticize some methods of argument but I don't look at anyone as "less than". Did you do that on purpose or was it an accident? :)

So metavirus wants us to pretend we believe he actualy reads the kind of
comment that dares to say the truth?
You and yours may disagree with me by actualy analysing what I said,
      - but I say, God Bless GWHayduke!

Of course the wicked witch of the west said, 'how about a little fire, scarecrow'?
      but she was ugly.

And now it's ad hominem, is it?

She was simply fighting fire with fire in the war on straw man terror.
