    Fellow Propeller-Heads,

Well, this is ONE idea that may "stimulate" sales for the Paint Companies. We can title it "The Sherwin-Williams Eco-Act".

Question (and you needn't keep your comments focused solely on this question, thank you):

If Alaska becomes part of this Eco-program, will and should Governor Sarah Palin exempt IGLOOS from the PAINTED White Roof requirement?

LONDON(AFP) (AFP) - US Energy Secretary Steven Chu said Tuesday the Obama administration wanted to paint roofs an energy-reflecting white, as he took part in a climate change symposium in London.

The Nobel laureate in physics called for a "new revolution" in energy generation to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

But he warned there was no silver bullet for tackling climate change, and said a range of measures should be introduced, including painting flat roofs white.

Making roads and roofs a paler colour could have the equivalent effect of taking every car in the world off the road for 11 years, Chu said.

It was a geo-engineering scheme that was "completely benign" and would keep buildings cooler and reduce energy use from air conditioning, as well as reflecting sunlight back away from the Earth.

The Nobel laureate in physics seems to be the same kind of sleazy snake oil salesman the whole global warming/climate change crowd are made up of. Nobel laureates seem to abound in the tin hat crowd. Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, etc.

So why not just paint everything white? Why do we need to do anything else?

Actually, after my smart-aleck comment about snow, I live in a very hot summer climate.

Everyone buys light colored cars - you can always tell the newcomers - they drive dark-colored cars.

And only an idiot put a dark roof on their house. A lot cheaper to heat with gas than to cool with electricity.

Would white roadways become a driving hazard by reflecting heat/light upward. I wonder if it wouldn't make it difficult to see especially at certain times of the day. Not to mention what type of material would be used an then how could it be kept white?

white roads wouldn't make sense, but then, concrete is probably better than blacktop

This is a really great idea to help conserve energy. We desperately need to help conserve our resources and do everything we can to help the environment before it's too late.
