Comments for NBC Meet the Press: Don't Air Rick Scott's Phony Documentary »

Posted By Eagle_Eye 6 months, 3 weeks ago in Health & Fitness

This Sunday, following Meet the Press, a 30-minute advertisement attacking health care reform is set to air on NBC in Washington, DC. The ad is by former hospital CEO Rick Scott and his group Conservatives for Patients' Rights

Rick Scott has a track record of deceit. Scott's previous ads contained blatantly false statements and misleading excerpts of interviews with health care professionals. Join us in telling NBC not to run this phony "documentary" this Sunday.

If Scott's 30-minute "documentary" contains any falsehoods, NBC could very well find themselves with an FCC violation. Furthermore, Meet the Press needs to know that they're being used by Rick Scott, and will be tarnished by his swiftboating.

FTA: ""The advertisement will likely deceive viewers by blatantly misrepresenting the positions of two physicians. While the advertisement paints both as opponents of any role for government in health care reform, in reality, just the opposite is true. Both physicians are in fact supporters of universal health care. What they are opposed to is the U.S. ‘two-tiered' system that already rations health care based on the ability to pay. In fact, Mr. Scott misrepresented Dr. Day's comments, and Dr. Day openly mocked the ineffectiveness of the U.S. health care system. What Dr. Day is opposed to is Canada's outdated funding model, not Canada's healthcare system. Dr. Day actually advocates reform of the funding structure to preserve Canada's healthcare system, not dismantle it.""

Again they are using disinformation and deceit on the air waves to try and strike fear into the American people....how can we blow them out of the water this time??

With the truth. That's the only recourse their is. I realize that too many Americans are taken in by propaganda, but there is no way to stop it. My question is; why are deceitful people so good at their art? Seems to me the obvious solution is to adopt their tactics, & use them better. If fear is what resonates, then use fear to get the truth across.

What's scary is that you would want a government that has lead us into the biggest deficit ever, a fake war in Iraq and given us one of the worst economy's ever, to run our health care. How much more waste are we going to get from this Universal Health Care. All I see is a blank check for our government to run amok and spend like crazy.

How can you see it any differently?

          Maybe I can help, b-happy.

For 30 years or more, the Right Wing in America has done it's best to divert BILLIONS of taxpayer money to Large Corporations, Insurance Companies, Pharmaceutical Companies, Banks, Hedge Funds, Military Contractors ... and Wealthy, Connected Individuals.

          Why?

Because they ALL had powerful lobbyists working on their behalf.

Meanwhile, the middle class has been used as a giant piggy bank from which the above entities were free to extract as much money as possible - with NO repercussions.

In essence, the Right Wing adopted an Ideology that PROTECTED those I've highlighted in Bold above.

This Ideology created an unsustainable situation. Without an economically healthy Middle Class - everything collapses like a house of cards in a stiff wind.

Providing Health Care to the Middle Class is the ONE solution that will shore up our entire economy.

          - It will stop the thousands of home foreclosures every year due to families incurring astonishing hospital bills for unforeseen illness.

          - It will help small businesses who are truly suffering under the weight of HUGE health insurance costs for their employees - permitting our manufacturing sector ... for the first time ... compete on a level playing field with other nations.

          - It will stave off the death of Americans for simply not having insurance - as an estimated 20,000 die each year as a direct result of not having insurance.

          - It's the right thing to do.

It's time to protect OUR CITIZENS ... the way Government has protected the privileged for the past 30 years.

          FTA

"We're not the only organization that has raised serious questions about Rick Scott and CPR's credibility. The highly-respected website www.factcheck.org, run by the non-partisan Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, has labeled CPR's prior advertisement as "very misleading."

CPR's weak rebuttal to these criticisms should give NBC even greater pause before airing its latest iteration of these advertisements. Essentially, it concedes that it is painting a scenario that has not been proposed by President Obama and Democratic Congressional leaders and, indeed, Factcheck.org labeled CPR's response as "nonsense."

Based on Conservatives for Patient Rights record, this 30-minute fake "documentary" will be false, deceitful, and a distortion. We request that you cease plans to air it on Sunday, May 31st."

Sent in the Email request as well.

The fear mongering swiftboaters have started their plan of attack; scare Americans into believing it is not safe to add a universal care option to our nation. I am not surprised that is beginning in this manner and at this time.

It is all based on preserving the maximum amount of profitability for the insurance companies and has nothing to do with their so-called "concern" for the well being of Americans.

Not too different than scaring Americans into believing that we had to attack Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction, the insurance lobbyists are ready to market their fictionalized nightmare about universal coverage.

The living nightmare of HMOs that we have today that are currently paying doctors not to provide necessary diagnostic and various medical treatments will certainly not be covered.

Of course, the current reality of the health care crisis that Americans are suffering with today will be ignored by these presentations. Their target audience are those that have coverage -even marginal protection and they will scare them by showing what they will allegedly "lose".

Trying to resell Americans on the current failing system will require dishonesty, omissions of fact, and one scary picture of a dismal future.

The savvy viewer will readily see through their phony concern for the well being of our nation's health care system. However, seniors and uneducated conservatives will be given the propaganda to protest Obama's health care option.

Only an educated and engaged middle class can overcome their attempt at maintaining control over the current health care industry, which is unfair to all Americans.

Don't let Government control your health and destiny? Is that because the people with private health care are doing just fine suffering and dying under the will of big insurance companies? Just because you make your copays doesn't guarentee that they'll cover you.

Actually, Medicaid is generally viewed as quite successful.

Here's an article from the American Academy of Pediatricians extolling the success of Medicaid in North Carolina.

You can find stories like this all over the internet - if you care to look.

But I know where you are coming from ... ALL Government Programs are BAD ... (except for the MOST EXPENSIVE Government Program of all time ... The Military) ... and ALL Private Enterprise is GOOD ... driven by righteous people ... who's only concern is the general welfare of your average American.

conversely, goppy, here is a great article on overutilization by doctors in macallen, tx. it supports your contention that for profit enterprises are not really the best option for healthcare. aapparently, a different model used at the nayo clinics works netter; it's an enlighteening read.

i was planning on submitting it on it's own, but haven't really been able to spend the time on it:

                          http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/06/01/0906...

apparently, mcallen has the most expensive healthcare in it's metro area, without the attendant increase in the outcome, per patient. it's not about malpractice insurance; it''s about a focus on the bottom line rather than the greatest benefit to the patient.

mesodude is being 'overthetop' ... nevertheless ... it is commonly believed that Right Wing Ideologues are insanely driven to protect that which is no born ... but show a callous disregard for those who are actually alive.

Hes not that far over the top, all you need to do is look at the agenda the right supports.

Wonder where he got the money to buy prime time air time?? Can we say insurance companies??
This bunch will stop at nothing! They are bound to have every dime in circulation and they will not cease in their efforts until they die, then they will pass their greed down to their children. It never goes away.

The saddest part of it is, they have convinced other less fortunant conservatives that they're right.. I see a lot of poor people riding around in cars that are smoking so bad they look like they're going to blow up, with McCain/Palin stickers still on them.. Then there's the ones that live down the street from me.. their kids always look like they need a bath, they have bed sheets up at their windows for curtains, none of them work... BUT their McCain signs are still in their front yards!

It's ignorant, uneducated conservatives like that, that we are up against. They don't understand that they are being encouraged to cut their noses off to spite their faces, and the leaders/heads of their party just doesn't give a rats ass about them, as long as they get their support and votes.
All i can say is "PITIFUL"..

I just don't understand their minds n2n, Every time I see a Republican post/comment I see that gray haired woman telling McCain how afraid she is of Obama, I see the mentality and character (Eagle Eye roll)

I feel that they just don see or care to see the reality in real life, kind of like living in another reality.....one thing Propeller has done for me is to allow me to see how many there are and how narrow and small minded they can be.

It's like i have said before! Look at the red states vs the blue states. The red states have low educational standing, high unemployment and high welfare rates and a lot of crazed fundamentalists. Don't get me wrong, i'm a Christian, and i'll never deny it, but many of these people don't even realize they are being used by big business and slick politicians to further their personal agendas. The worst part is, you can't get any of them to understand, regardless of how much proof you can give them. It's like brain washing.

I signed the petition days ago. I got an email from DFA and went to the link and signed it. This is going to be a fight. There are a lot of companies that will be against it. The insurance industry is the largest in this nation.
