Rob Thomas and Alec Baldwin are both straight men who are speaking out about gays and lesbians, and civil rights. We need more allies who will help fight for civil rights. As Rob Thomas made clear, white people helped black Americans fight for civil rights. So too, should straight people help fight for what is fair and equal under the law.

I don't know Rob Thomas, but I now greatly admire him. He has put into words my exact feelings. I'm straight also, but have a close family member who is gay. My close family member is one of the most honest, caring, and sensitive persons as you could ever be privileged enough to call friend. My sibling has helped me to reach a point where I can agree 100% with Rob Thomas. As for the judgmental bible beaters, you can take a flying leap. How dare you interfere with another person's rights!

It it fair to say, comparing the plight of HoMosexuals to the the Afro American Civil Rights movement is a major Disgrace to all Afro Americans including many of my friends... Homosexuals and Normal...
Nice try DUPA, however, please backup your comments with FACTS, I know this is a major problem for You, but, as a HOMOsexual try to be Honest in your assestment of the HoMOsexual Problem.. It is not really that hard, Just be honest and use common sense...

Hobe, I'm sorry to say this, but, even though you will probably not be back as your comment was a "hit and run", you really should not comment on articles about which you have no knowledge. You might want to try to address Rob Thomas's comments and refute them logically rather than going off on an uninformed rant. What did you find inaccurate about Thomas's article? Come on Hobe, give it a shot.

Is having a male lover worse or better than cheating on your wife with a woman? What is worse for the person being cheated on? Isn't it really the same?

And if you want facts, then look no further than the NAACP marchin on Washington with the gay rights in 1993 and in 2000. It's no secret that the NAACP is very supportive of the civil rights movement for ALL Americans. And just remember the old addage that when one is oppressed, we are all oppressed.
Also, just look at Loving v Virginia. That's the case that legalized the marriage between different races. Ms. Loving herself said that the case for marriage equality is the same struggle that she had to fight in the 60's.
That seems like enough proof that African Americans feel that our struggles are the same.
And if I have children, I would much rather have children who are sensative, creative and tolerant than ignorant fools who have no empathy or compassion. -

the only real homosexual problem is people like you Hobe, people that are uncomfortable for uninformed reason, or for one imagined reason or another with homosexuals.
There are 2 reasons I wouldn't prefer my child to be homosexual, the biggest being people like you that they have to deal with, and the other, is my own little selfish reason of,possibility of grandchildren is smaller.

It's not illegal.
If what turns you on is having sex with someone of your own gender then go for it.
Marriage is between one man and one woman though.
You can't call gays a minority group any more than you can call people that like to have sex with goats a minority group.
If gays can marry, then why can't someone marry their sister?
Or maybe their mother or grandmother?
How about an man marrying 2 women?
What about a woman and her monkey?
All of that may sound sick to you and I, but there are people out there that that it would appeal to.
Where does it stop?
Putting one's manhood where another man evacuates his waste sounds sick and perverted to me, but there are actually people out there that do that too.
Go to your bedrooms and have at it.
Should they marry??
No more than any of those other scenarios.

Marriage and for that matter being gay is about a lot more than having sex. Automan, do straight kids and adults date one another? Do they do things other than have sex? Do they go to parks, movies, dinner, libraries, churches, and other activities together as couples? Why then, do you not see that gays and lesbians do the same thing. Your nonsense arguments about marrying animals are absurd. Animals cannot consent. No one is asking for polygamous marriages as marriage is a contract between 2 people. As for incest, it is illegal. Being gay, as you noted, is not. The point at which it stops is the point at which gays and lesbians are allowed to wed.

Why can't we call gays a minority group? We have numerous other minority groups who are disadvantaged...thus, why not gays and lesbians? Do you prefer discrimination, or do you just thinly veil your bigotry?

as David says and many others have given you and all the others the exact reason why you can't marry your goat, sister, mother etc as much as it seems you want to.........why can't you remember that?
And also like David says, homosexuality is not just about having sex anymore then being a heterosexual is just about sex.
maybe you aren't married, maybe you're a virgin-saving yourself for marriage?! but people don't get married because they just want to have sex, most people can probably list 100s of reasons they want to marry the person they love, homosexuals can do the same thing! basically the same list!
ssshhh you can have sex without marriage, you can have children and not be married, you can live together and not be married, but you must be married to share some of the legal rights, protections and benefits that heterosexuals receive when they marry. Homosexuals should have exactly the same rights given to them by the government....any religious establishment can feel think and do whatever within the law, nobody needs their approval, it's a choice, but the government isn't a choice.
Being heterosexual or homosexual is not a choice either.
