A history of violence on the antiabortion fringe »
Posted By bluetexasvalley 6 months ago in NewsReporting from Atlanta - Bombings. Butyric acid attacks. Sniper shootings. Letters filled with fake anthrax. These are some of the tactics used over the years by antiabortion extremists. The slaying of Dr. George Tiller in his Kansas church Sunday was part of a decades-long history of domestic terrorism aimed at abortion providers, carried out by a small minority of the much broader and generally peaceful movement that opposes abortion. The National Abortion Federation, which supports abortion rights, has documented more than 6,100 acts of violence against abortion providers in the United States and Canada since 1977. The group classifies as "violent" not only the acts of murder, attempted murder, bombing and arson, but also vandalism, burglary and stalking, among others. Tiller's slaying appears to be the eighth of an abortion clinic worker in the U.S. or Canada and the fourth of a doctor. A fifth doctor was shot but survived -- as did Tiller in a previous attack.

Given this, perhaps we need to stop being so indulgent with the anti-abortion movement. If we go down the path of hate crimes legislation, then perhaps they need to be included.-

Why aren't they being investigated by Homeland Security. Did it take Tiller's death to finally prove to them that this group of extremists is crazy? What about the previous deaths? They weren't enough to prove that these groups of right wing nutjobs are going to kill again and again?

What is so sad is that these Right Wing Extremists drape their actions with a veil of "Christianity".
But these people have perverted Christianity to such an astounding degree - their beliefs ... their Christian Values ... are almost diametrically opposed to the actual words and spirit of Christ's teachings.
Modern American Christianity has SOMEHOW derived that ...
... Murder is Good if it gets people to stop doing what they don't like ...
... Lying is acceptable if it achieves political power ...
... War is ALWAYS Good ... when promoted by Republicans
... You can NEVER spend too much money on warfare ...
... Helping poor people is frowned upon ...
... Helping single mothers is downright stupid ...
... Supporting legislators that work to PREVENT children from getting access to health care ...
... Supporting Polluters ...
... and perhaps craziest of all ... the whole "Health Wealth" movement ... where GREED is good ... and a sure sign that God loves you ... is if you are wealthy.
Christianity Perverted ... ... ... so much so ... we're no longer surprised when a DEVOUT Christian Murders anymore.
We just EXPECT it.

You know, I've often talked about the two ways that people come to Christianity ...
Reply
ONE way is as a reaction to "Sick Mindedness".
These are the people who are alcoholics (George W. Bush for instance) drug addicts, and other generally unhealthy life-styles. They 'get religion' ... but ... have they truly experienced a 'spiritual awakening'?
ANOTHER way is through 'Spirit Mindedness' ... in which the devotee searches for answers to long standing spiritual questions ... (Edgar Caycee).
Unless you are experiencing Christianity through an uplifting experience of "Spirit Mindedness" ... you are NOT in a healthy place.

Goppy is at his insanity in talking about Christians again. He has absolutely no comprehension of the topic and anybody who is one sees it right away. His application of silly ideas put on Christians makes Goppy look rather stupid. Try again Gopp. Both methods you talk about are downright nuts.

The prime recruiting agent for religious conversion is low self-esteem. Of course alkies, drug addicts, prostitutes etc are drawn to christianity. The message that they are "sinners" resonates with their low self-esteem and their perceived powerlesness to change; and instead of growing through life's hard lessons, they are offered a life-substitute - just believe what we tell you to believe, and you will be saved.
Reply
Of course, when they DO believe what they are told to believe, and are still miserable, they are told they don't believe enough, their low self-esteem is reinforced, and so they latch on to their new and absurd belief system with even more desperate vigor.
Eventually, their self-delusion and denial become strong enough that they convince themselves they ARE saved.
But in truth, there is nothing that needs saving, and nothing to be saved from.

Now ... I know I comment on the hypocrisy of Modern American Christian Conservatives ... and for this I've been attacked as a Christian Hater ... which is convenient for Christian Conservatives ... because it's the HYPOCRISY that I hate ... given that I am a Christian ...
But I want to leave this one factoid that I found both interesting and cautionary ...
Here it is ...
"Almost ALL Adult psychotic hallucinations have to do with RELIGION, GOVERNMENT, or the DEVIL."
When you think about it, you realize how true this is.
.
I'm not saying any more about that ... or passing judgement ... but if you look at many of the Right Wingers on Propeller ... and have thought ... "This guy/gal is a raving lunatic ..." ... this may help you resolve your response.

Goppy...I agree with your thoughts...perhaps you could soften your rhetoric and realize that the conservative right wing Christian machinations are the result of a politically motivated machine that gets it's power by appealing to the fears of a lot of weak and misguided people. While not a practicing Christian, I respect and honor the intellectual and spiritual energy of most Christians..as well as similar Jews and Muslims...to say the least there is a parallel path coming from the radical Christians, and how is screws up our society, and that of the maniacal Islamists.

Good article.
I still cannot believe these people.
To murder a man in church and claim it is because you are pro life and love God and His ways.
Is to admit to being a liar and not trusting God and His will, will be done.
Who put the doctor on earth in the first place. God !!!
Now maybe He was using this doctor to show the ill effects of abortion. Maybe He allowed it to continue because there was something He was using the doctor for.
Whatever reason, the murderer took things into his own hands and destroyed a life. He actually destroyed many lives.
But he will answer for his insane beliefs.-

Gramps, these people are pro-fetus, not pro-life.
Reply
They are a wierd christian cult. They imagine the fetus as a christ-like being, man unsullied by sin, awash in a heavenly bath of amniotic fluid.
Of course, once the child is born, it is anything but unsullied - it cries, craps, farts, demands food, keeps odd hours and generally behaves in a manner that would get anyone else evicted from the premises. The honeymoon is over, the fetus has become one of us and is no longer sacred.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2tggLZ2rGkg/SRemqeU6JEI/...
Because the fetus cultists identify the fetus with Jesus and Mary, they feel they can kill people and throw acid and its OK if they are doing it to protect Fetus Almighty.

blue......Thanks for presenting a few more facts and history concerning this topic. I just wish we as Americans were more level headed and fair about exposing extremism. Too many Americans choose not to look at things as they are. They carry lenses with them and flip it to which side they desire. They magnify or reduce the subject according to their needs. Especially involving extremist acts of violence and more than that when there seems to be some religious connection to it.
Reply
Extremist do the same thing and maybe use colored lenses or look at religious text using those mirrors you find in carnival funny houses to distort the context.
Christians are always keen to look at the myriad verses of violence, adultery, incest and God's wrath in the Bible with that lens reducing their significance by saying "it is old testament" or that "that was a while ago". These abortion fanatics and racist bend and disregard content and follow their own goals, understanding and aims. Let a Muslim do the same and that lens is flipped and it is completely attributed to the entire Islamic religion. I can't help but akin it to stereotyping of minority groups(Mexicans, Blacks, Indians). I don't need to quote any of the jokes (or fears) made on the subject.
I quote again a quote I read on here from Winston Churchill
"a fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject" -

My Fellow Americans: It appears that a real Doctor was not killed. Rather a Modern Day Assassin was eliminated from the execution chambers of the Radical Majority.
Reply
We have a faction in this country lead by Radical Buffoons that preach the imaginary misgivings of Christianity when in fact it is their own demented concept of Reality that is attempting to mislead and scar the true humanitarian concepts of this noble Religion.
Yes, we have hate crimes that should be investigated but not that of the Morally Right but rather the Insanity of the Murdering Left. Babies destroyed before they have a chance to place their mark on a World that needs Honest and Truthful Leaders. Those individuals that have been accused of Criminal activity by killing the Enemies of our babies are the New Soldiers of the Weak and Helpless Infants. The Killers are those that would support and take the life of a innocent child about to make his or her mark in this now misguided world.
Fanatics talk about God like he is their Buddy. Rather God should be represent as a savior to All that are Good and Understanding. Satin has made his presence felt by imposing his hand into everything that is Demonic and Un-Christian like. He has place Muslim Wackery as the Loving Priority of all Liberal and Moderate Left Wing Quackery. We stand on the threshold of a Judgment Day that will place every Man, Woman, and Child under the Microscope of a Power Far Greater than any Despot or Messiah the World has ever Experienced.
So to say "Judge Not Least You Not Be Judged". So Be It. The Real American-

There you have it ... a perfect example of the Crassness of Modern Christianity.
Reply
Can you just imagine Jesus saying, ... "Murdering this man was fine ... in fact, his death is to be celebrated."
Well ... of course, Jesus wouldn't say that ... but Rush Limbaugh would. And any similar member of the Modern Christian Conservative Movement in America ... who rely on the power of CRASS to drive their point home.
.
Always bear in mind that, the exact same Right Wing Fanatics who hold up embryos as examples of Living BABIES ... and wish to grant them all the same rights that they DENY babies who are LIVING ... if they are poor ... are the same people who don't raise an eyebrow at the death of HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Iraqi's ... or of LIVING people in Darfur.

Here's the thing, late term abortion is wrong. I feel that abortion past the first trimester is wrong. That one is my opinion, but to kill a baby that could live outside it's mother's body is absolutly wrong. There's no way to get around it. It's murder as sure as shooting someone and killing them is murder. Two wrongs do not make a right, by no means, but Karma is a bitch, too.

Talk about hate!
Reply
I rarely get a chance to read so many hateful, ignorant comments on one place. So, just to clarify:
* Not all pro-lifers are christian.
* Not all pro-lifers are in favor of the war.
* Not all pro-lifers are in favor of the death penalty.
* Not all pro-lifers fit whatever other stereotype you come up with.
Oh yes, and,
* Most pro-lifers base their stance on not only moral and religious ideas, but also on scientific ones.
Try to calm down and behave like well-mannered, rational human beings, please. The death of George Tiller was senseless and stupid, but don't use one murderer as an excuse for the government to persecute the millions of peaceful pro-lifers and peaceful groups like Operation Rescue.
