there is something fundamentally wrong with telling free people they have no choice but to pay for this plan.

I also do not understand the idea of creating a new program to pull together the other programs (think homeland security) when what is really needed is to simplify: cut the current 9 govt programs into 1 program (medicare) which saves us money in itself, and then allow those without insurance to buy into medicare regardless of age. it doesn't eliminate choices, and it doesn't force anyone into anything.
but I am sure they will do it the hard way.-

As long as these people are free to access emergency services, they need to contribute to the cost in order to ensure health care for everyone.
