It seems outlandish, extreme -- even impossible. But according to cutting edge scientific research, it is a very real possibility. And unless we make drastic changes now, it could very well happen.
Experts have a stark warning: that unless we change course, the "perfect storm" of population growth, dwindling resources and climate change has the potential to converge in the next century with catastrophic results.

They did a great job presenting many many scenarios that could be the down fall. But the number one thing I got was that it has to be "Population Control". We are going to exceed our Natural Resources, there are all ready droughts affecting our produce, less corn growth less live stock raising, losing birds brings more insects, bacteria virus' mutating.....our earth, a living organism is a vast network of arteries and veins....when the organism gets sick the arteries get clogged, the interactive web of life breaks apart, strand by strand.

There is a lot to think about.
How many of you could be "self sufficient" for a year?-

The chick in the picture is protecting the families water supply!! LOL, it is interesting to see some of the picture selections that come up when you submit the stories, if there is nothing relevant then I pick the most bizarre just for laughs....

Oh EE.. I have to tell you i was really disappointed with the program. I think Discovery would have done a much better and more realistic program. The animation caused it to lose credibility, and there were wayyyyyyyy too many commercials.

Don't misunderstand! I think they got the point across, but it lost something in the animated translation, and just about the time i was really beginning to get comfortable with it and felt like i was learning something, BAM, commercial time.. I think there had to be an hours worth of commercials out of the 2 hour program. I was really disappointed!
What did you think?-

I was disappointed with the animation and feel Discovery Chanel could of done it better, but I did feel that they presented a great program covering many many aspects of planet changes,

But I do agree, the animation made it seem some what "cheap" and this is from a company that owns Disney with the worlds best animators.-

Absolutely right! Plus, they could have used computer enhanced visuals to give a "more realistic" look to what the earth would look like during the droughts, floods, etc, Instead I felt like i was looking at cheap anime*..

But you're right, the message was the important thing, and they did a good job of explaining the changes.-

"I felt like i was looking at cheap anime*, I think that is because they think every one is "into" "anime" which I personally think sucks big time.

But like jordan says, the going into the future linked with the real time people helped. If it had been all animation I would of given it a thumbs down,,,,how ever I would love to see the "Discovery" channel take a shot at this.-

Oh Yeah...Big time...Have you you ever seen "Life after People"? It's a History Channel feature.
Many things crumble pretty quick....some last a long long time. Once they are broken they will become less than easy to Fix.
Why not just feed everyone and reach for the Stars?

I took the animation to mean exactly that that it wasn'tr reality BUT a possiility of what could happen if we dont change. The message and information the program presented were indeed eye opening. BUT the commercials .......... lol

China was the first country to realize they needed population control because they were running out of natural resources to take care of their people when they were so cut off from the world.

I find that interesting that a culture that was way behind us was way ahead in this particular matter.

We have a bad problem with the population control and it is not getting any better. EE, You have brought it to many peoples attion and you did it very well. I must say you stuck with it all the way and that was good. Has anyone seen the things that are ready begain or has happened? I wrote it down in my book a mothers reflection of love, so if I am not here when it happens they well know that I knew ahead of time, and if it hadn't been for ee I would never been able to let them know. Thanks EE.

I liked the way they put together the montage of civilizations that came and went.. very telling. And what did that lady say about the person on Easter Island that decided to chop down the last tree? "What was going through their mind?"
Reply
But of course THAT could never happen to us.. right? -
