A national plan that will compete with private plans will kill all private plans and the majority of us have employer sponsored plans. Don't you think that if our private plans are taxed, and you can be sure of this, that we'd opt out of something that was a negotiated right and then pay the national premium? The end result? The government taking over another very large segment of our economy, and the benefit? Higher health care costs! Look at the Medicare disaster in terms of cost. Why don't we make the same effort to make health care affordable to everyone by writing in tax incentives to those who work and pay taxes? And for those who don't work, they already have Medicaid. Improve upon that if you will. Paying higher taxes for a government sponsored program which will have no accountability and putting a "rush on it" is how we're getting nothing for all the stimulus money we've wasted so far. The entity to be saved only ends up filing for bankruptcy.

The only reason to "hurry up" is to pass some mega legislation without reading it and ensuring that we don't find out what is being voted upon. Why the urgency? The Democrats may lose their strangle hold on congress and then their opportunity will be lost.
