Conservative Radio Host, Hannity Guest, Charged With Inciting Violence »
Posted By TimALoftis 5 months, 4 weeks ago in Political NewsReactionary radio host and white supremacist Hal Turner was taken into custody Wednesday after remarks urging Catholics to "take up arms" against two Connecticut lawmakers and a state ethics official over legislation being considered in the state legislature regarding the church.
Connecticut Capitol police got a warrant for Turner's arrest. The Hartford Courant fills in the details:
Turner, who has been identified as a white supremacist and anti-Semite by several anti-racism groups, hosts an Internet radio program with an associated blog. On Tuesday, the blog included a post that promised to release the home addresses of state Rep. Michael Lawlor, state Sen. Andrew McDonald and Thomas Jones of the State Ethics Office.
"Mr. Turner's comments are above and beyond the threshold of free speech," Capitol Police Chief Michael J. Fallon said in an e-mail announcing the warrant. "He is inciting others through his website to commit acts of violence and has created fear and alarm. He should be held accountable for his conduct."
The remarks on the blog were a reaction to the recent controversy over a bill that would have changed the way the Roman Catholic Church is governed, taking power away from church officials and turning it over to lay members. It was pulled in mid-March following an outcry from Catholics across the state and questions about its constitutionality.
Turner used to be a regular on Sean Hannity's radio show (the Fox news pundit). When Hannity said he didn't have an association with Turner earlier this year, Turner wrote:
" I was quite disappointed when Sean Hannity at first tried to say he didn't know me and then went on to say that I ran some senate campaign in New Jersey. In fact, Sean Hannity does know me and we were quite friendly a number of years ago.

Mulah Hannity gave this underling an order to issue a fatwah on the politicians who would undermine the power of the holy teliban catholic church, and its pedophile directors.

From my point of view both parties are wrong, The state has no right to dictate how the Catholic church is run and the law is both unconstitutional an wrong. Now he had every right to call on people to protest and even give out the home address but he went to far when he mentioned violence and "Obey the Constitution or die". Two wrongs do not make a right.

The clincher for his arrest: "If any state attorney, police department or court thinks they're going to get uppity with us about this; I suspect we have enough bullets to put them down too."

Duh, what was this guy thinking? – "Bring it on?" lol. -

The republicans use faux noise and AM radio, which they own, to issue religious fatwahs to murder or terrorize enemies of the rich or enemies of the church, the church being the passification of daddy worshipping slaves, thus an extension of the rich and powerful's passificantion of the slaves effort.

Its no coinsidence that sexual repression, leading to the catholic pedophilia, and the unquestioned loyality to authority, totalitarian daddy family model, (not traditional american family values where women have equal rights) is in the same repug package. Torture and ignorance and women as property and sexual repression, its as republican as apple pie. -

Well, when I looked up the Bill of Rights this morning the very first Amendment said this:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. "
So, I have a couple of questions.
How does the State of Connecticut have any authority to pass any law respecting the governance of the Catholic Church? Looking at the law being proposed it appears that there is an attempt being made by the State to determine who is "in charge" of the secular matters of the church. The State controlling the Clergy? Isn't that forbidden by the Constitution? (review the quote from it above if you have doubts) If the State can force the Church into one form of forced obedience can't it can force them into any?
Say the State wanted a Preacher,Priest or Rabbi to teach a certain way or take or not take a position on a certain issue. What if the State just decides one day that the Church must close it doors? Does anyone really want the State having power like that? That's a sure path to Theocratic rule...sooner or later any state control over religion will be used as precedent for an abuse of power.
I am not defending the guy for inciting violence but just when exactly DOES it become time to "take up arms" in defense of your rights? Where do the People have the right to draw the line on the Powers of the State? What actions ARE permissible?
A lot more than just Turner's comments is disturbing. The actions of the two idiots from the State Legislature who believe they have the right to make a Law regarding the governance of a Church are completely over the top.
I want to know what happened to the Constitution. It is becoming more and more apparent that most of our Lawmakers either have never read it or think they are not bound by it.
The more I read things like this the more I believe it IS time to put some heavy pressure on our legislative representatives.
Whatever it takes to get their attention. That's not a threat of any kind, it's just simply what We, The People are going to have to consign ourselves to doing if We want to retain our Freedom.-

Well, firstly, no law was passed, as your own quote points out, it was being "considered". IF this law WAS passed, perhaps it would have been overturned. There ARE legal routes to take if one disagrees with a law or in this case the POSSIBILITY of a law, before resorting to violence.
Secondly, if the governance of the Catholic Church seeks to play the role of a lobbiest, then perhaps it should face the same regulations as every other lobbiest has to face. No different than ANY church facing the possiblity of losing tax free status for playing to large a political role.

Two things about this story.
Reply
1. It wasn't all that long ago when government officials not only released the names and addresses of business executives who recieved bonus pay, but actually bussed acorn members to their homes. Seems to me Mr Turners actions were not all that different.
2. The use of Mr. Hannity's name in the title of this article was entirely inappropriate and seemingly was done in order to both draw attention to the article and to associate Mr. Hannity to the actions of Mr Turner when in truth Mr. Hannity had absolutly nothing to do with this story whatsoever. This typy of sensationalism borders on defamation of character and slander.-

1. Nahh. Didn't happen.
Reply
The government named companies it gave bailout money to; as was its duty.
News agencies, bloggers and various troublesome types looked up names and personal data of those CEOS. If you are going to pretend the gov bused Acorn people to protest at their houses, be more imaginative. Say they did it,
in buses meant for handicapped veterans .
2. The use of Mr. Hannity's name in the title of this article was in keeping with the article,
which discusses Mr. Hannity, in reference to Mr. Turner, who discusses Mr. Hannity,
and in refrence to general far-right media bozos, which is of course again in reference to Mr. Hanity.
3. You are complaining about media exposure on media beasts. That isn't going to work.

Only a biased reading of Mr Turner's words
Reply
would imply a support of violence.
For example:
"If any state attorney, police department or court thinks they're going to get uppity with us about this; I suspect we have enough bullets to put them down too"
In point of fact, if we take that into the greater
context, we see, uhm, we see,
ahh ok we see a nut who urges people to shoot people.
But is that a crime?
Ok, yeah sure it's a crime.
But let he who is without sin shoot first!
that's what I say. -
