Racists Crying Racism - Video »

Even before President Obama named Sonia Sotomayor to replace David Souter on the Supreme Court, we knew that the rightwing noise machine would come after whoever was nominated. But what we didn't know was how much of an advantage they would have with the nomination of Sotomayor, because with their planned line of attack against her, they finally had an issue that they were intimately familiar with; racism. And who better than Pat Buchanan and Tom Tancredo to speak with authority about that?

But with their emergence as vocal critics of Sotomayor, almost lost among their shouts of racism, quotas and affirmative action, was their own Marcus Epstein. Almost. Who is he?

Epstein is the protege of Pat Buchanan and Tom Tancredo, serving as the executive director for both of their virulent anti-immigration groups. He's a "frequent contributor of racist essays to the white nationalist hate website VDARE.com," named for Virginia Dare, "the first white baby born in the English colonies."

... July 7, 2007, Epstein was walking near the intersection of Jefferson and M Street Northwest, in Washington, D.C., in a mild to severe state of intoxication. A friend of his later told the Secret Service that Epstein had been drinking. Apparently, Epstein was making offensive comments about non-whites, and decided to express himself more dramatically by calling an African-American woman passing by a "Ni**er" and then attempted to karate chop her in the head.

Epstein was definatley out of line with his behaviour, and it would have been wise for Tancredo to disassociate with him at this point. That being said, this is all a ploy to sideskirt the issue of Sotomayers own rascist views. She was a prominent member of La Raza and in fact her statement was made at a La Raza function. Many people would say that this organization is benign, but that is naive. La Raza means the race, it also supports MECHA, wich is a no bones about it, hispanic extremist group.

This writer isn't too bright. Oc course, she's racist. If any white person had said what she said about a black or any other minority, they wouldn't have a chance at being in the Supreme Court. She shouldn't be either. Obviously, she will not be fair. She has shown her bias.

Alright..............White people have been picked on enough!! I can say that none of my family members have ever owned someone or sold someone or stole someones property. I can say for sure that my relatives back to my Great Grandparents have never said anything negative against anyone. So I feel good saying... If there can be "black" anything, "Hispanic" anything, "Indian" anything, etc.........there should be no threat to having "white" anything. The people that hide behind "discrimination and racism" are the ones and the only ones who are RACIST and DISCRIMINATING anymore. The rest of us are behaving ourselves!!!

        eezzbeat,

From the article: "... Apparently, Epstein was making offensive comments about non-whites, and decided to express himself more dramatically by calling an African-American woman passing by a "******" and then attempted to karate chop her in the head."

This is indefensible and Epstein should be treated as the racist pyrriah he is. BUT, his actions do not diminish the racism found in Judge Sonia Sotomayor's controversial statement (among others) to La Raza.

One must keep in mind that Epstein WAS NOT nominated to a seat on our Supreme Court as Judge Sotomayor has been. This is why her comments and actions are so much more relevant.

Yes, indeed. Republican racists calling others racist - one of those things that make you go hmm.

Progressive, Sotomayers statements were racist and certainly not taken out of context. I will admit as you have pointed out that she has ruled against said hate speech case. But that does not excuse her previous statements. I was watching real time with Bill Maher and one of the guest defended her in the context that "speeches dont count", this is a total load of crap and a blatant double standard. If a white man would have uttered such word at a white group call council for the race then there would be no discussion about whether or not it was racist.

Republicans are not racists. The right favors individuals and limited government, the left favors groups and collective government. Democrats are the leftists, and as such they favor collectivist ideologies... racism being the barnyard method for sorting human beings by gene stock. Democrats are the ones keeping track of everyone's skin color, sexual preference, and genitals. Group differences and bigotry come naturally to them. That's why everytime a republican opposes anyone on the right for principles, the left always reduces it to an "ism" - racism, sexism, etc. It's not because the charge is true, but because it makes a good hammer to hit republicans over the head with. This makes republicans seem like racists, and leaves them to try to prove that they aren't. Between the people on the left beating their chests to "elect the first black president" and the others, trying desperately to "not look racist"... the democrats have managed to elect the first Marxist/Socialist/Black Liberation Theologian to the white house. Brilliant.

Republicans have nothing to apologize for. Democrats have much more to explain.
