MEEK PREZ ROLLS OVER LETS FANATICS SET MUSLIM AGENDA »
Posted By Klarissa 6 months ago in NewsPRESIDENT Obama's "ad dress to the Muslim world" was a masterwork of equivocation and political naiveté.
Let's start with a sentence buried within his text -- possibly in hopes that few might notice. With it, Obama effectively accepts Iran's nuclear ambitions.
"No single nation should pick and choose which nations should hold nuclear weapons," he said.
. . .
Obama's mea culpa vis-à-vis Islam extended beyond the short span of US history. He appropriated the guilt for the Crusades, Western colonialism and support for despotic regimes during the Cold War, and countered that with a flattering narrative about Islam's role in history, featuring outlandish claims that would astonish many Muslims.
Ignoring the role of ancient Greece, pre-Islamic Persia, China and India, he credited Islam with having invented modern medicine, algebra, navigation and even the use of pen and printing.
He went so far as to trace the genesis of the Renaissance and the Enlightenment to Cairo's medieval Al Azhar theological school.

Obama said he was seeking "a new beginning between the US and Muslims around the world" -- implying that "Muslims around the world" (including Muslim Americans) represent a monolithic bloc, as Osama bin Laden and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claim.

Is the president unaware that there are 57 countries with Muslim majorities and a further 60 countries where Muslims represent substantial minorities?
Trying to press almost a quarter of humanity into a single ghetto based on religious apartheid is the fruit of either woeful ignorance or dangerous provocation.-

BUSH VISITS MOSQUE FOR ISLAMIC 'RESCUE'
Reply
WASHINGTON - President Bush visited a mosque yesterday, removed his shoes in respect, and challenged Muslim clerics to more aggressively denounce terrorism.
"We must encourage more Muslim leaders to . . . speak out against radical extremists who infiltrate mosques, to denounce organizations that use the veneer of Islamic belief to support and fund acts of violence," Bush said at the rededication of the Islamic Center of Washington.
Bush also urged leaders to do more to thwart the notion held by many "young Muslims - even in our country and elsewhere in the free world - who believe suicide bombing may some day be justified."
That call to sanity comes after a nationwide poll released last month showed that one in four young Muslims in the United States believe suicide bombings that kill innocents in the name of Islam are OK in some cases.
--I really like the first sentence about Bush removing his shoes to show respect. Reminds me of some things Obama did recently to show respect that caused cons to go apesh*t. ;-P

Obama promised to help change the US taxation system to allow Muslims to pay zakat, an Islamic tax, and threatened to prosecute those who don't allow US Muslim women to cover their hair.

Despite his anxiety about being "respectful of the values of others," Obama had nothing to say about the abominable treatment of women in many Muslim-majority countries.
The best he could do was this platitude: "Our daughters can contribute just as much to society as our sons."
Emphasizing the Islamic aspect of his identity, Obama said: "I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed." -

I wonder if any Muslim symbols on the stage had to be covered when Obama delivered his speech. Just to show the folks at Georgetown that what he did there wasn't personal.

The speech itself was just more eloquently spoken sophistry from the Panderer-in-Chief.-

--Another sad con bitching because we now have a President with actual diplomacy skills again. But at least George W Bush's approach earned him respect and...oh, wait...It actually *didn't* earn him respect and it reflected extremely poorly on our country. But silly anti-American cons don't care about those things. You only care about staying in power so you can have tax cuts. Be honest, cons. The more popular Obama is, the LESS likely Republicans are to be making any kind of comeback any time soon. DEAL WITH IT. ;-P

Zakat is a tax a Muhammad has to pay under Sharia Law. On the bright side for a Muhammad, it's half what an infidel has to pay in tax under Sharia. The tax an infidel (kaffur) has to pay is called the jizyah. Muhammads say this isn't descrimination.

We of the left have no problem with the conclusion

Forget your jealous rage;
He will never by yours.
Mend your broken heart as best you can,

Barack Obama Just Changed the World
Reply
The president's Cairo speech had three overt targets: Muslim extremists, Israel, and George Bush, not necessarily in that order.
He sought to undermine the moral authority of the extremists by radically departing from the language of Anglo colonials. Then he blew a chill into the intransigent heart of Israel by indicating a realignment of official attitudes, relationships, and diplomatic norms. As a topper, he pretty clearly made the case that the intellectual and cultural underpinning of the war on terror and America's geo-political strategy in the Middle East -- the rotten legacy of his predecessor -- have been dim and bigoted.
In the annals of speeches, you'd be hard pressed to find one as ambitious as this.

You people are bloody disgusting, a man destroys your country over an 8 year period and you have not one thing to say about it. Now, you have a leader that is attempting to tackle every issue and at the same time elevate your status in the world, and you fight him every step of the way. Seriously folks, your actions border on treasonous in my opinion, with friends like you America does not need any more terrorists.

Historically, Obama Approval Ranks High
Reply
PRINCETON, N.J. (May 31) - So far in May, Barack Obama has averaged 65% job approval rating, according to The Gallup Poll. Since World War II, only three of the previous eight presidents elected to their first terms -- Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan -- have had a higher average approval rating in May of their first year. Obama's average exceeds those of the three most recent presidents -- George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.
Since he became president, the trend line on Obama's job approval rating in Gallup Poll Daily tracking has been fairly flat. However, his May average to date of 65% does represent a slight improvement over his ratings from the prior three months, which ranged from 62% to 64%.
Historically, there has been no clear pattern in the trends for presidential approval ratings through May of a president's first year in office -- four of the previous eight post-World War II presidents showed increases in their approval ratings from February (Gallup does not have January readings for all presidents) to May, and four showed decreases.

You guys can slam President Obama if you so choose, that is your right. I find his approach refreshing compared to our last President. I admire that he is making an attempt at some kind of reconciliation with Muslim nations. You have to realize that the vast majority of Muslims are not terrorists but I do believe that they share a common enmity with the US that goes back many years. To assuage the feelings of many Muslims will produce far greater gains than the acerbic attitude that Bush promulgated towards the Muslim nations.

Terrorist Muslims live in Muslim nations. A favorable impression by Muslims as opposed to an unfavorable view could in all reality reduce the number of recruits that radical Muslims recruit. I know I didn't double space this response will this be sufficient?

Obama Boosts US image, Approval Doubles in Turkey
Reply
U.S. President Barack Obama has boosted his country's image abroad by six points since his election in November with a 22-nation poll on Thursday showing 42 percent of people expressing a favorable view of America.
As Obama prepares to speak to the Muslim world in Cairo in a bid to repair tattered U.S. relations, the Ipsos/Reuters survey showed a 25 point jump in favorable views of America in Turkey, the only majority Muslim nation polled, to 49 percent.
The poll was taken between April 14 and May 7, shortly after Obama visited Istanbul and met with religious leaders as part of a bid to unite moderates of faiths against extremism.
"This suggests that any sort of strategy to engage with the Muslim world puts a premium on him as the messenger and going there and talking to them," said Clifford Young of Ipsos Global Public Affairs, the international market research and polling company that carried out the online poll of 22,000 people.
"There's this very positive Obama effect and he is contributing significantly to increasing the U.S. credibility around the world," he said.

I'm leaving for a trip to the Baltic countries next week - I hope the feeling towards the U.S. has improved over the last time I was there when Bush was screwing things up.

Nothing like having a beer with someone who is native to another country to get a perspective of our own.
BTW - I was in Turkey in Oct before the election the people there were excited about the prospect of Obama being elected.
The previously cited poll bears this out.
